Brain is fried on scaling things up. How many or weight would you make for 10 people??

OP posts:

If we were talking sprouts, I could clear the lot on my own. More than likely clear the room later on too.

Love a nice sprout or 50.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 24/12/2022 18:09

2 big bags

I do make them fairly small though as I cut each potato into 3rds for maximum cornerage and therefore crispness

That is seriously stealthy veg prep.

I know, Im seriously overinvested in this thread!!!

And the big shame of it is, Im recovering from an op so I bought everything pre prepped so the roasties are in a tin from Sainsburys this year

Disappointment beckons tomorrow!!

Doesnt 6 refer to 6 roasties, not 6 potatoes?

So if one large potato makes 3 roast potatoes, to serve 6 each to 18 people, means two potatoes each, so 36 large potatoes.

Ah see, maybe it's a size thing! My spuds are mid-size and I don't cut them - hence my numbers. If they're more bite size I guess I can see how you'd eat 6. But there is so much other food, I'd be stuffed to the gills!

The perfect fork for me, is a roastie, a sprout and some bread sauce.

OMG!!!

Sherrystrull · 24/12/2022 18:11

3 roasties! I reckon 6 each.
When my dc was 18 months old he ate 8 roast potatoes on Christmas Day!

NoelNoNoel · 24/12/2022 18:11

2 or 3 each wouldn’t go down well in my house.

bellac11 · 24/12/2022 18:12

Suzi888 · 24/12/2022 18:06

@bellac11 might you have a roastie addiction ? 🤣 good planning though. I love a roast pot.

Im going to joint RPA (roast potato anonymous), but not until after Christmas!!

mackthepony · 24/12/2022 18:12

5lbs

Exactly Im reading this in shock

3 roast potatoes????

Come now.

You can only expect such answers on Mumsnet. Similarly anyone who has more than 2 slices of meat or more than 2 stuffing balls or more than 8 green beans is greedy etc etc.

3 roast potatoes is 1.5 whole potatoes (given you cut potatoes in half to do the parboiling) so it really is funny.

Anon1224 · 24/12/2022 17:59

Do you want to host again? If not 3 each is a the way to go, especially since those who go first won't realise and take 5 each, leaving a couple of people without.

I like your style! 😆😆

mackthepony · 24/12/2022 18:14

I'd be doing 45 golf ball ish size roasties.

^

Love the different forms of measurement 😅

RomainingCalm · 24/12/2022 18:18

(4x- (0.5x)) + 2y

Where x is the number of adults and y is the number of children.

DinosApple · 24/12/2022 18:20

I've got 8 for dinner tomorrow.
I'd do a 2.5kg bag for 5 of us piggies with leftovers so I doubled it.
My DM estimates it as two large spuds per person.

Mindymomo · 24/12/2022 18:23

My adult son ate 12 yesterday. I’m going for 6 each tomorrow for the men and 3 for myself.

See this is where my Irish-ness is showing. My roasties are fist size at least. No cutting up potatoes in this house. Peel, par-boil, roast - lots of lovely fluffiness inside 😋

tunthebloodyalarmoff · 24/12/2022 18:23

3 each is plenty when it's with all the other trimmings

xmaslurgy · 24/12/2022 18:35

Assuming 4/6 out of one potato 1 potato per person will be plenty enough

DarkKarmaIlama · 24/12/2022 18:38

I’m sorry but I would be totally depressed with just 3 roast potatoes 😂.

Akite · 24/12/2022 18:44

I cook each year for 11 of us. I'd allow at least 6 per person (half are children so eat less but DONT REDUCE THE NUMBER FOR THIS). And then once I'd peeled those, I'd peel another 4 or 5 large spuds (or 3-4 roasties in each) for good measure.
thats the perfect number. We never ever have roasties left over.

tulips27 · 24/12/2022 18:48

Also depends on the mood:

Not everyone knows each other well e.g. new partners are there/posh and formal so we're having healthy portions = fewer potatoes

v.s.

People barely out of pyjamas all day, grab as many roasties as you can before your Uncle gets to the plate and clears it, need to adjust your waistband to accommodate your new "bump" after dinner = more potatoes.

LunaLoveFood · 24/12/2022 18:49

We've got 10 coming for dinner, 8 adults and 2 children. We're having mash and roasters and I've done 6kg . Hoping we may have left overs for bubble and squeak, but not hopeful!

Soontobe60 · 24/12/2022 18:50

I’ve just prepped the potatoes. There’s 7 adults and 2 little ones. I’ve done a 5lb bag for mash and another 5lb bag for roasts. We’re very greedy and must have enough for Boxing Day breakfast fry up!

woodhill · 24/12/2022 18:51

I'm making 40 for that amount of people
