I've been poorly the past week with this dreaded cold going about.
Yesterday was even worse, and today I haven't been out my bed. Spiking temps all night and struggling to keep them under control with Ibuprofen/Paracetamol and no duvet!

I'm due on Christmas nightshift...
I really don't want to phone in sick, people always piss take on Christmas so ho doubt they'll be short already.
But OH is adamant I do....

Would you leave it longer or phone in now to allow them to try and get cover?
(I work as a nurse)

Woah woah woah let's not go after the 12 hour shifts! They are hellish when you're not feeling great but overall most people prefer them (there are some roles which offer office hours and shorter days min). Much prefer having less times a week to get ready, travel in and and having more days 'off' is rad.

Off topic, hope you have called in sick op.

Definitely don’t want to go back to the 3 shift pattern. Nights were always longer anyway, think the 2 shift pattern added an hour on to nights so minimal impact.

Most nurses I know prefer long days, fewer days at work, easier to pick up bank. Also easier to get agency cover. Our late shifts used to finish at 9:30pm, used to kill me. Now they finish at 7:30pm.

I used to prefer the long day pattern too expect when I worked at the hospice when long days were 15 hours; 07:30 - 21:30, they were a killer, especially when followed by an early.
