I went to The Range today and it was empty - but still had many pallets of undisplayed xmas stock

I expect there'll be massive sales after christmas this year. I was in The Range today and I expected it to be busy but it was like a ghost town. Most of their christmas stock was still on the shelves, row after row of it. And in addition, there was at least 6 whole pallets of extra christmas stock in the centre area that hadn't even been put out yet. Next door in Matalan, they'd sold nearly all their xmas stuff. Funny isn't it? I wonder what they'll do with it all?

Yesterday Card Warehouse had loads of things out of stock, Wilkos nearby had tons of stock and all reduced. There's no logic to any of it.

I really want a pair of pointless reindeer now though. Or maybe more. Did you say they are flocked???!!

I suppose these stores have to turn things around quickly, so that on 27th when shops open again after Christmas then the Christmas stock will be gone (sold or put away) and new stock out. Nobody working night shifts tomorrow and Sunday when this can be done usually.

I went into B&M yesterday and they were boxing so the Christmas stuff up to put away

I went yesterday too. All the christmas stuff was half price. Shelves were pretty empty though.

I think some shops have been understanding this year to avoid having leftover stock? I wanted to buy a make up set for my 12 year old. Boots etc are normally swimming in them but I couldn't find anything this year. Had to order from Amazon.

Also seconding the weird pricing at the range! Picked up loads of things when I went a few weeks ago and none of it was priced and no price on the shelf either, and the staff didn't have a clue either

My Range was like this today, they were reducing prices on all xmas stock 30% off.

Well, you're not selling these shops to me, ladies!
Has anywhere been busy & Christmassy?

Yeah, my Sainsbury's 😂

@Unthinkable8 Probably not that enjoyable though? ;-)

Needmorelego · 23/12/2022 21:57

The stock probably arrived late so rather than spending hours and hours unpacking it and displaying it and then more hours and hours having to reduce it all/pack it all away in 2 days time they probably have left it to be returned to the distribution centre.

@catsonahottinroof I said the same
To my dh. For the last few years we have bought massive boxes of chocolates from aldi for grandparents and they didn't have them this year, just run of the mill boxes of biscuits and crap chocolate.
B&m didn't have anything xmassy a week before Xmas! We really struggled to find a babies first Xmas bauble. Dobbies was bare two weeks before...normally my friend and i go for a mooch two weeks before and enjoy all the decs but there were bare shelves. It has all felt very minimal.
Something is def going on.
