My daughter has gone to the 02 to see Disney on ice with her son and Friend . She booked their seats. Was sitting there. And some big bloke came along, couple of people with him. . Told dd to get out of the seats dd said she has paid for the seats. Then they got aggressive so dd was scared and got out of the seats . This left dd her son and friend with no where to sit . People started having a go at her because she was not in the way . Staff got involved. Told the people ti moved or they be kicked out . But staff did mot follow it through. Dd got told yo sit somewhere else. They have since had to move 3 times.

Dd is so upset . She's been a victim on domestic violence so she gets very upset and scared. Her son has special needs. Dd ended up crying and her son got upset as well. He was effected by the DV as well so he's effected when men shout or show anger.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything simlar. If so what did you do ?

How events are managed in the UK is problematic. You only have to see the awful tragedy at the Brixton Academy last week to see how poorly managed they are and how security is delegated to temporary security staff who are temps basically.
It’s another accident waiting to happen. I’m sorry your family had this experience.

Yes let's blame events team for hundreds of people turning up to a sold out event with no tickets and no hope of buying one and then tey to gate crash their way in because they think they are entitled to go without paying.

God forbid the people who do this takes responsibility of their own behaviour.

I mean who does that!

Same for people who sit in seats that they didn't book. Every single person who does this is an utter bellend

Its massive and if something happens the other side of the arena then other would not know or be effected by it.

And as the seat stealers were allowed to stay in the seats that dd paid for. To on lookers close to them it made it look like dd was in the wrong seats.

What was odd though is after the interval in the middle them people never returned. Very odd

I bet the bullies moved to even better sears during the interval and had a go at the people who’d booked those seats too.

I’m so sad that this happened to your DD. I would complain by email but more importantly publicly on Twitter describing how the entire trip was ruined. O2 should refund tickets or give free ones to another show. But they may not. 😢

I’ve been to O2 once and in no hurry to go back, I found the huge crowd intimidating, the venue understaffed and it was not a special night out. Much prefer traditional venues like Royal Albert Hall.

I think she means that, while she’s sorry for your DD, creating a thread about how easy it is at the O2 to buy cheap seats then steal great seats, may inspire some readers to do just that. 😔

I’m not sure if she’s right. An article in the Daily Mail would inspire some wankers for sure, but are there many huge male bullies on Mumsnet? I dunno.

I've been at an event where 2 of us had the same seats exactly. Venue staff didn't know what to do- I wouldn't be surprised if it happens elsewhere

I used to work at a small theatre where you were allocated seats but you didn't get to choose them. Something went wrong with the computer system one evening, and when the tickets were printed it doubled up the seats, so almost everyone had someone else with the same seat details. I still remember the first guy who brought it to my attention. I took both tickets, looked at them.. checked the date, checked the time. Looked again. Then just went 'huh... I might just pop out the box office.' That was a nightmare to sort out (everyone did get a seat though, and everyone was polite to each other and staff) 😆

OP, I hope the O2 take this seriously and she gets a full refund. Absolutely appalling!

It's not about the event team. It's about who runs the venue and who manage the event, to anticipate potential problems and be prepared to allocate sufficient resources and have contingency plans in place to make sure the minimal service standard and everyone can feel safe at least.

There are always thugs around. But it's up to the venue to be prepared to deal with antisocial behaviour. With the amount of people show up, they should be prepared.
