Dinner/Lunch/Tea

I often see conversations on MN (especially at this time of year) where people refer to their Christmas meal eaten at lunch time as dinner. Is this a regional thing? If people call a meal eaten at lunchtime dinner, what's the evening meal? Tea? Supper? Or still dinner?

This thread gets asked quite often on MN.

It is regional

Very much a regional thing. My family are from the Southof England. We have had breakfast, lunch and dinner. Tea is generally 'buffet tea' like on a Sunday maybe. My dh family are from the North of England. They have breakfast, dinner and tea.

@UsingChangeofName sorry! It was a genuine question. I used to live further North and we were Breakfast, Lunch and tea. Now further South and its breakfast lunch and dinner.

I'm originally from the south east and had breakfast, lunch and supper. Now married to DH and lives the south west. Here it's breakfast, dinner and tea.
