Dealing with painful spots with no head

Eileen101 · 21/12/2022 18:28

I have a huuuge spot on my chin, that quite hurts, but has no head on it. It's reoccurring from previously - how can I get rid of it so that it doesn't come back?

Any tried and tested tips please?

I have recently started using dots for spots. A bit pricy but impressed with them so far. They work best on spots with a head but I put one on a big under the skin spot the other day and it went pretty much over night.

I use duac, you can get it from an online pharmacy. I used to get it by presctiption from my GP but my skin cleared up so much that it wasn't worth seeing a gp about. I just keep a tube in the fridge for when they appear - this is what's called cystic acne. If you get it regularly you can get a referral to dermatology.

I get Renee Rouleau cyst treatment from the USA. If I don't use that I use La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo.

Another vote for Dots for Spots! There's a cheaper brand on Amazon called Aliobio that works just as well. They work on insect bites in summer, too.

It sounds like cystic acne, zinc can be helpful (as a supplement)

Ackity · 21/12/2022 18:55

Duac here. Amazing stuff.

ZoChan · 21/12/2022 19:47

Thanks for this thread - I tend to get them on my jawline now! Have ordered some aliobio so hoping the new one that's developed will be gone by Christmas!

I always have a tube of acnecide (benzoyl peroxide) for these. I had a bad run of under the skin spots when I first had my contraceptive implant put in and I dabbed a bit on before bed and by the morning they were flat or massively reduced. Don’t go mad though cus really dries normal skin out so a little goes a long way.
i always have some tea tree oil or origins super spot remover and the ordinary salicylic acid but find those 3 better for spots with a head.

Unfortunately cysts tend to reoccur in the same place unless you have minor surgery to get it removed which you'd have to go private for and would leave some small scar. Best thing you can do is meds to keep recurrences at bay. Antibiotics and if that doesn't work roaccutane. But that depends how often you have issues and how bad they are and how much they bother you.

dontgobaconmyheart · 21/12/2022 20:15

I find Azaleic acid really helpful for reducing this kind of spot, and it's also really good for clearing up any marks left behind once the active spot has gone.

Spot stickers (any are fine I find, loads on Amazon) are good too.

HeyMicky · 21/12/2022 20:24

Zitsticka has microdarts and I find work much better than just the spot dots

biedrona · 21/12/2022 20:31

Tricky one.
I recommend COSRX dots, available on ebay

NoelNoNoel · 21/12/2022 21:11

I find applying a warm flannel (as hot as I can tolerate) helps.

Checkedtowel · 21/12/2022 21:23

A sudocrem face mask makes a huge difference for me. Plaster it on thick then go to bed (don't use a special pillowcase)

Whyisitsodifficult · 21/12/2022 21:32

I find the worse ones are on my bum! Red and painful, where do they come from!?

Daisymay2 · 22/12/2022 10:46

Not helpful for your current situation, but I h found that my huge headless spots on the chin have stopped since I started hot cloth cleansing I had a few tiny white heads over the first few weeks, but since then hardly anything, but I did notice a difference when I briefly went back to using a foam cleanser so there might be something in it

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 22/12/2022 11:12

When I used to get them I’d ice the area to get the swelling down and then a hot flannel, face mask to draw spot out and tea tree oil which would often bring the spot to a head. Agreed that spots do occur in the same place.
