Christmas present ideas for him - PLEASE!

I am at an absolute loss this year. He's impossible to buy for. His hobbies are photography, sailing and cycling but we've just had a baby so the cycling is on the back burner for a while. His photography is so in-depth that I don't stand a chance of choosing anything appropriate.

He says don't buy for him but he enjoys receiving gifts. Money isn't necessarily an object but he wouldn't want me to spend lots on him.

Any ideas or general gifts that have been well received in the past?? I'm desperate!

My husband showed me a Facebook post of a man saying that he was happy with pants and socks for Christmas because all he wanted was to be with his family and build the children’s toys. My husband said he felt exactly the same so I’ve bought him pants and socks and some chocolates and cakes too. My husband sounds similar to yours, he likes cycling and photography but we have two littlies so his free time is spent with them, he never gives me any present ideas but I know he likes receiving them. Hope he meant what he said about the Facebook post!!! 😂

Does he enjoy galleries and exhibitions?. If so I’d look to see if there’s a private tour you could buy in a relevant gallery or museum. I’ve just bought one for my mum at the National gallery and comes with a cream tea. I don’t know if the Royal Academy would do something similar or there’s the Photographers gallery and the Tates in London. Otherwise I’d there a prominent day course he might enjoy to further his skills? ( Macro photography or sports photography etc …. ) There are also a whole cult range of manual film cameras available like the Lomos & Holgas which are inexpensive and fun. I think there’s a retailer called Analogue Wonderland who also sell the film and process it.

Oooh I did buy him some waterproof gloves for when he goes cycling again actually!! I asked my SIL who also cycles and she suggested waterproof gloves or socks (she said sealskinz are good).

Or a family / couple day out somewhere together?

Do the favourite MN thing and upgrade something he already has?

Kindle?
Alexa?
Steak stone?
Hori hori knife?
Dry robe?

My dh is a photographer and if he doesn’t have a camera harness I’d recommend this one The moneymaker harnesses are gorgeous and my dh has had his at least 5 years and it still looks new.

A day out zoo or alpaca walk experience. My dh loved money forest. I loved kitty café.

A night away just you and DH.

Massage.

Afternoon tea somewhere special high up where you can view whole city.

My dh loves tickets for T20 cricket final.

The MN 'upgrade' thing is utterly ridiculous. Buy someone who doesn't need anything another of something that they already have. Just why?

OP, don't get anything related to cycling, sailing or photography, because you'll likely be buying something he doesn't need or wouldn't choose himself.

Just get him something consumable. Nice spirits, chocolate, nuts, cheese, a voucher for a high end food delivery, something like that.

I've got DP chocolate, DVDs (because he's said he wanted some, so I've spent a tenner on DVDs of films he'll watch over and over again from Music Magpie) and a Haynes Manual

We both just buy our own things when we need them and exchange token consumables at Christmas, makes life much easier.

Digital photo frame.

He can take pics and load them on.

Job done. Xmas Grin

BAM socks are one of the things my DH always asks for...

Posh deodorant stick (like Issey Miyake or Le Male by Gaultier) - good if they don't wear full on aftershave, etc

Lego Architecture of London, or New York, Japan, San Francisco, etc

A particular sweet / food they like - like hard liquorice sticks / massive Dairy Milk bar /

A bottle of good port, malt whisky, etc

How about books? There will be plenty of books about people's sailing and cycling adventures.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/12/2022 13:35

Power bank. Leads and charger.
Solar lantern?

nannyquestion1 · 22/12/2022 22:11

Wow! So many great ideas! Thank you all - I would NEVER have thought of some of these. I'll report back what he thinks after Christmas, hopefully it's positive 😂

Bought my husband a heated gillet for his recent birthday. That went down well

nannyquestion1 · 26/12/2022 23:20

I got him a steak stone and he LOVED it. Thank you all!
