HRT from private appointment subsequent prescriptions?

Hi, a few months ago I saw a gynaecologist privately yo address some suspected menopausal symptoms. She prescibed Vagifem which worked immediately to relieve my symptoms, but now I've run out, can I ask my NHS GP for the same prescription? Or do I need to keep going back to private provider indefinitely? If NHS do I just give them a call?

Usually the private consultation will have written to your GP saying that they've seen you and prescribed xyz and sometimes to ask the GP to take over the prescription. You can always make an appt with your GP and tell them and ask for another prescription.

for my GP I would do an ecal/online request and see if they wanted to see you/call you or not but I wouldn't be surprised if they just issued a prescription (as long as my emessage was clear and comprehensive enough)

My mare did tge same.approached her doctor and they said they would issue on NHS. Result . Think it bit of a lottery. Try. Good luck.

Thanks All, I've dropped my surgery an email (I've also lost my voice so calls impossible for now 😂), will see what they come back with...

@EmmaStone I have an appointment with private GP to discuss possible perimenopause symptoms on Friday. Were you happy it was worthwhile? Did she offer lots of advice? It's a chunk of money for us that I don't want to waste

You need to ask your private doctor to set up a shared care agreement with your GP.

@Oneborneverydecade mine was through work medical cover, so I only had to pay for my prescription. I spoke to a GP friend of mine about symptoms and private treatment and she'd said there's no way I would have had half of what I'd had privately, so in that respect, yes it felt worthwhile. She checked for any abnormality (internal scan and urine tests for infection), and seemed very thorough to me.

However, menopause is a huge watchword at the moment, so it may be that if I'd seen my normal GP, they would have also prescribed some HRT from the off, but to be honest, I've got PMI, I just wanted it dealt with at a time that suited me, and didn't want to wait around for GP appt, possible referral, and then potentially having to argue my case for HRT. I also feel that by having started this ball rolling, if/when further symptoms develop, I can go to my GP (or private again) and get my prescription amended without too much trouble.

Thanks @Nevermindthesquirrels , I'll see if this can be set up.

No problem. Just to add, I'm sure your Dr has already explained this to you but please just make sure you keep a very close eye on any changes to your breasts and lymph nodes. My mum took HRT and within 6 months had a tiny lump in her breast. She was diagnosed with stage 2 hormornal breast cancer that was already starting to spread. She had to have a masectomy and came off HRT. It was really scary and totally unexpected as the drs only briefly mentioned the increased risk. We were very lucky she caught it when she did and she got the treatment even though this was in lockdown.
She isn't allowed back on it but is taking red clover which is helping with menopausal symptoms but it's not as good as HRT.
