Books for an early reader aged 7

dd is 7 and in year 2. She is in a welsh medium school where they don’t teach them English until year 3. However, she has been desperate to learn English reading so I’ve been teaching her at home for a couple of months and she’s around stage 5 Oxford reading tree level (just about).

she reads the ORT books to me and loves them but I’d love to find her more of a proper reading book or maybe a comic book she could read mostly independently. Ideally with pictures but not too babyish if such a thing even exists. She takes her diary of a wimpy kid book everywhere but it’s much too hard for her so she just read the picture bits with the speech bubbles which is why I thought a simple comic might be good.

any suggestions very gratefully received
thanks

The Julia Donaldson books are great and because they rhyme, they're easier to decode.

7 isn't too old for them either- my 10 year old will still have a sneaky look at a Julia Donaldson book.

Kes Gray's Daisy books go from picture books into early chapter books. I have bought them for many friends' children. Rainbow magic - awful but they do get them hooked and popular well into Y3. Mr Majeka.

Bumble and Snug
Cat & Cat Adventures
Narwhal and Jelly (very easy, but the text is in capital letters)

Winnie the witch (the picture books) are hillarious.

There are some more basic rainbow fairy books.

The 13 storey tree house.

Agree with @puppydisaster - everyone loves a Julia Donaldson book! Favourite in our family currently is Room on a Broom.

Why not take dd to a library and let her loose in the children's section? My children considered that an exciting trip out at that age and loved coming home clutching an armful of books :)
