Sinusitis or dental issue?

I'm in so much pain in the right side of my face, around the cheekbone, the jaw, upper teeth and spreading a bit to the temple and I'm not sure what's causing it.

I've had a cold for ages and just as it seemed to be getting better this pain started suddenly which is why I'm thinking sinus infection but its only on one side and I don't seem to have a lot of pressure there when I bend over so perhaps tooth problem? I have pain in the same area I have a fractured tooth (but repaired) but it doesn't hurt worse if I bite with it.

Ugh! Same here. I found your post looking a way to relieve the pain that doesn't involve ripping all my teeth out with pliers, which I'm seriously considering right now 😭

It can be very difficult to tell apart - can you get a dental appointment to at least rule out a tooth issue? You're more likely to get an emergency dental appointment than a GP appointment.

Probably sinus but at this time of year it's a bit risky to leave possible dental pain to get worse over the holidays.

My dentist was able to see the congestion from a sinus infection on the dental xray when it hadn't even crossed my mind as a reason for my toothache - similar to you, I had been full of the cold but thought it was going away.

I get sinusitis. It can be exceptionally miserable. I get pain in my teeth with it but it’s across all the teeth not one particular tooth. Sometimes it’s both sides of my face and sometimes one side. Comes on after a cold. There are multiple sinuses in your face so the pain can be from one or two and not the others.
When it’s not too bad I rotate paracetamol and ibuprofen and sometimes I need codeine in one of them. A couple of times GP has given me stronger painkillers when it’s been really bad. Definitely see about getting an appointment and maybe some saline spray to help clear out the sinuses.

It sounds a lot like my dental abscess - my pain radiated in the same area. I also had a repaired fractured tooth that didn't hurt. I saw the dentist and he wiggled it and the pain was indescribable. I'd see a dentist ASAP to get it checked because you may need a good dose of antibiotics and honestly, the abscess was the worst pain I'd ever known. My face was swollen on one side like a football. I needed to have the tooth removed as an emergency.

(I also suffer sinusitis a lot but not had in the same places as you've mentioned)

There was no chance of getting an emergency dentist appointment last night as I'd have had to go to the hospital in the city 60 miles away and I don't drive so went to emergency doctor instead as the pain was unbearable and he used the ultrasound thingy to check my sinuses, full of fluid so looks like it is sinusitis after all. Got antibiotics and painkillers and hoping it'll be better by Christmas. Congestion disappeared a few hours after the first dose, the pain is a bit reduced but still quite bad but the doctor did say it'll take a couple of days before it gets better.

@MickeyMouseEars sorry you're suffering similar :( Hope you can get some help soon

Glad you got a doctor appointment. Once you stay on top of the pain you can start to feel better quickly.

I regularly get sinus toothache and find that the nasal sprays you can buy at the chemist help to clear it and reduce the pain? Hope you feel better soon. It's the worst. I've also had every kind of dental issue going. I find that dental pain progressively gets worse over time (or is made worse with hot/cold food and or chewing) but sinus dental pain remains a constant ache until it clears up.

I think you must live outside the UK as that xray sounds impressive and not something our GPs would have access to!

I'll give nasal spray a go as the painkillers are doing sod all for the pain. It is definitely better than it was this time last night though.

Its a little handheld ultrasound thing called Sinuscan, seems its a Finnish invention so that explains why they have it here and not in the UK. Certainly handy for quick diagnosis and better than doing an x-ray.
