Asda inferior substitutions

Dull thread alert but pls help!

I am so done with Asda and their shitty substitutions...obviously there are lots of subs these days, fair enough, but without fail they downgrade their subs...ie give me a cheaper version of what I've ordered. If I'm spending £500pm with them and Hovis isn't available I do not want some awful smart price loaf as a sub.

So please, tell me which supermarkets upgrade their subs, rather than downgrade please?

And yes, I know I can turn off substitutions but I don't want to do this as that will then just mean I have to get in the car and drive for 20 mins to the nearest supermarket. I would just like them to go "you know what, she spends hundreds of pounds with us every single month. We can't provide her with that product so let's give her something at least as good or nicer that she'll actually be happy with".

Neither am I going to write 50 substitution notes each time!
Thanks

Tesco do the same give a lower level product, very irritating

Morrisons will sub for higher cost items but you do have to pay the increased amount for it.

That's why most supermarkets sub for cheaper options - so you don't get a shock when your receipt arrives and it's suddenly £10 more expensive than it was when you checked out.

I do click and collect with Aldi, and so far the subs have always been for a higher priced product (with no extra charge.)

In my last shop, I ordered two bottles of their £10 champagne which turned out to be unavailable, and they substituted it for two bottles of £15 pound champagne!

IIRC in the past I have been subbed more expensive items but paid the cost of the item I chose, for example I chose ordinary strawberries at £2 but was given the £3 ones and charged £2. This was Asda. I now put no subs on some things as have some weird substitutions so don't have recent experiences. I have however seen the bread shelves in store recently and wouldn't have wanted anything that was left to be subbed for what I order which I guess they would do in the hopes that you would be okay with it.

Sainsbury’s vary but usually go up rather than down. They charge you and then give you a substitution voucher for the difference.

They may substitute objectively silly things though. My shop today includes a substitution of fresh raspberries for fresh cranberries. So the Sainsbury’s algorithm (presumably devised by someone who has never cooked a Christmas dinner) thinks we will be having raspberry sauce with our Turkey this year. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have found 9 times out of 10 Tesco subs are higher value. I highly rate Tesco for delivery, customer service and subs.
I have used Asda and really disliked everything about it.

I have a large order arriving today from Asda and most of the 14 substitutions are for a cheaper inferior product. So I’m feeling a bit pissed off.
Ocado have far fewer subs but they do charge the higher price if it’s more expensive.
Tesco sub more than ocado but at least they tend to have sensible alternatives and don’t charge extra. They will also do things like sub two packs of something if they’ve run out of the larger size, at no extra cost.
Morrisons, in my experience are just rubbish in general.
As you can see I’m not a particularly loyal shopper. I won’t be using Asda for a while after today’s disappointing experience.

Kitsmummy · 20/12/2022 11:03

It's crap isn't it. I'm going to try Tesco or Sains. Would love to do Ocado but...£££

Asda is driving me mad with their subs.

Apparently we are having 'seafood sticks' with our scrambled egg for Christmas breakfast, because that's what they subbed for the smoked. Salmon I ordered. Admittedly, I ordered the cheapest one they do, but still!

scooobie · 20/12/2022 11:10

I moved from Asda as they kept doing this.

I moved to Sainsbury’s and was very happy but they’ve now started subbing a lot of larger items for smaller ones so they don’t have to refund you the difference. For example, I order 1kg of Greek yoghurt, which is often out of stock. Before they’d sub with 2 x 500g pots and refund the difference. Now they just sub for 1 x 500g pot so you don’t get and money back and are paying the higher price per g as the bigger pots are cheaper overall.

Ocado are amazing but if they sub for higher quality then you pay.

All my tesco subs are of higher value, I don’t really get many substitutes. Think it depends on the store. I gave up on Asda years ago. They used to sub my beef joint for 1 piece of steak. It got to the point I was sending half my order back.
