Parcels

I recently took in a parcel that had my address but different name. I called the number of the company as it was in a branded bag and said I had received someone else's parcel, they said they would investigate and get back in touch.

Since then I've had two more parcels from different companies with same name as the first parcel.

I had someone knock my door saying they are from so many doors away and I handed then the parcels. They gave the correct name on the parcels.

But I wish I'd asked them why they put my house number in instead of theirs for three different companies?

Is this a dodgy scam I could be pulled into that I'm not aware of or just someone clumsy putting my number down instead of theirs?

They found me by calling the first company (I think) or checking their account and what address it said.
That's their account of story

Once they’re made the mistake once, it could be auto filling in forms. Or perhaps they’re being sent to them by someone else who has the address down wrong.

I’d deff assume one of those before jumping to scam.

Sorry but this sounds dodgy as anything. Do you recognise the person who claimed the parcels? How do they know you had the parcels. If they're using your address for delivery of packages, is there anything else they're using your address details for? And what's in the parcels niw ir into the future is another concern.
It's not normal and looks pretty suspicious. If it continues report it to police.

I think I’d refuse the parcels.

If you don't recognise the person as a neighbour Id report it at this stage think.

AJ2009 · 19/12/2022 20:39

I couldn't refuse the last two parcels as they were posted through my letterbox.
The first one my DH opened the door and got the parcel off the delivery driver. He came to me and I said I haven't ordered anything so he checked the name and realised.

The items in the parcels are things for their DC.

I don't recognise the person who knocked my door but I do know a person at the same address

Is it a similar house number? Like you're number 36 and they're number 6? I've had it a few times when I've ordered and it's predicted the address just from my postcode, as the wrong number by accident, and I didn't check before finalising the order.
It sounds annoying though. If it happens again, I'd ask them to not do it again or you will refuse all parcels in future.

Mail order to your address and charging your property? Quite common in the 80’s.
They check post codes not numbers.

Next time return to sender.

AJ2009 · 19/12/2022 20:50

It is a similar number only one number difference.
I will be checking any mail I get here to incase I get letters for them.
I haven't had any dodgy happenings with my bank but I know scammers can be very clever and you don't realise until a while later.

The whole three different companies and the same name on parcel is throwing off signals.

Are they Mail order shops? Check your credit reports maybe to see if they are any new credit accounts opened.

AJ2009 · 19/12/2022 20:58

The first was ordered from a catalogue.

Last two the likes of eBay and Amazon.

I usually have alerts set up for my credit report and alway get emails from them but will check now.

Credit report is clear of any searches or anything new I don't recognise

Its more like your address than you, couple of legit ones so they know you'll hand them over type of thing and then catalogues. You'll know if debt collection letters start coming.
