What luxury foods would you buy if you were bedbound this Christmas?

I'm giving birth this week (Thursday) via c section, so Christmas is going to look a bit strange this time around!

I'm normally a big xmas entertainer, love being surrounded by family, and I'm the cook of us all, but barring a potential one hour visit on 25th from ILs it's just going to be DH and I (and the new baby!).

We've ordered in a ready made Christmas lunch from Cook which is waiting for us in the freezer (and I've done a months worth of batch cooking for after the birth), but I plan on doing a big Waitrose shop this week for nibbles and luxury bits to see us through the first week or so. I'll be mostly laid up in bed/on the sofa, DH is not a great cook, so I really want to buy in some treats that will feel lovely and decadent for my recovery.

So far I have:

  • a cheese board and a couple of nice chutneys
  • pâté, as I've missed it!
  • smoked salmon for Xmas morning
  • oj and Prosecco for Bellinis
  • some party food, because who doesn't like beef in mini yorkshires
  • tin of chocs

What else would you get?

M&S Our Best Ever Macaroni Cheese. The posh one with breadcrumbs on top. It's so delicious. With a glass of red wine Smile

Okay and then add pigs in blankets into the Mac and cheese. Heaven.

A really nice box of biscuits - I love Amaretti or Biscotti ones.

Chocolate truffles.

Olives - we had some from Waitrose stuffed with Manchego cheese that were pretty epic.

Some Seedlip non alcoholic gin (the spiced one is lovely) and tonic water.

Higgidy do some really nice veggie rolls - their samosas are lovely, as well as the red pepper and feta . They're lovely warmed in the oven.

Not really what you want to hear OP but you really shouldn't be bed bound after a C section....mine was over 12 years ago but at the time I was encouraged to move as much as possible although I guess advice might have changed since then!
Obviously still nice to get the lovely food though.......I'll see myself out😉

King prawns. Charcuterie meats and cheese with water biscuits. Gateau, Doritoes, a bottle of hot sauce with a rooster on the bottle and litres of real lemonade.

Congrats on your impending joy and happy recovery. Peppermint teabags will help with referred wind pain in the shoulder.

My bodyweight in clementines and tangerines.
Lots of nuts and kettle chips.
Stilton with Hovis bread shaped crackers and Carrs water biscuits.
Waitrose berry nougat
Turkish delight
As many packets as possible of pigs in blankets. Stick batches of them in the oven. They are so tasty cold, next day.

Good luck wiht the C-section. And congratulations on your baby to be.

I'm not going to be completely bedbound (that was for dramatic effect more than anything) but I will NOT be cooking, walking far, or doing anything beyond gentle pottering!

I really didn’t fancy wine post birth, but lassi, omg I honestly could have drunk pints of it.
As far as food goes, fruit cake, mangoes, something like nice pork pies, mozzarella, marzipan in black chocolate….only calories keep you going through the sleeplessness.

Do not underestimate the appetite you get when BF. I ate constantly, all the carb’s especially. Definitely one handed items and things you can raid from the fridge all night. You will not just be eating at conventional times.
I had GD and all I could think about at the time was cake and choc but actually all I wanted was bread, pasta and cheese based items.
