WWYD re package for former tenant?

I had a knock at the door the other evening at about 9pm. When I opened it there was no one there but there was quite a large package. The name is not mine but the former tenant and obviously my address. I’ve tried finding this name on Facebook several times as I keep getting her post (I return to sender now). This package does not have a return address on it anywhere and it’s quite big and taking up room in my hallway. I’m not sure what to do with it, what would you do? What’s the right thing to do? I was hoping she’d turn up and collect it but it’s been almost a week.

I’d open it and see if there is a returns label inside. Return to sender. Put it back on the doorstep and hope someone steals it.

Talk to the letting agent they will have a forward address

Poppyblush · 19/12/2022 13:58

Open it, see if there are senders details inside.

Surely you speak to your landlord or letting agent and see if they can pass on a message

SantaStoleMyPies · 19/12/2022 18:22

Landlord/letting agency as suggested.

But this does remind me of the time I accidentally opened a letter from a previous tenant (I lived alone and had long since stopped checking the name on the mail). It was a letetr informing them that their tenenacy for frozen eggs was due to renewal.

I passed the letter on.

2-3 years later, same address, I opened a parcel near Christmas without checking the name again. It was a pair of hand knitted baby grows and a little note that said "excited to meet you, little one".

I passed that one on too, with a grin Grin

Yeah must open it. There's probably a note in there /previous tenant probably has your address autosaved on Google. I keep accidentally doing that. Honestly wouldn't bother with the letting agent.

Letting agent or landlord best.

There could well be nothing more inside than on the outside.

Primroseprimula · 19/12/2022 18:42

Open it and see if there is a receipt, I might have a billing address.

Tiani4 · 19/12/2022 18:49

I would open it
As you don't have a forwarding address
You can reseal it

Then I would
Attempt to find them via letting agent
And if not who do we ask to arrange return to
And if none of that works, I'd keep it!

Tiani4 · 19/12/2022 18:50

I would t spend a penny on returning it though but say it is here for you to collect"

I had a supermarket delivery for a previous tenant recently. The poor driver looked a bit Confused. I've also just had a Moonpig card through for them. I've been there for nearly two years so it's a bit random that it's only happening now.

We had similar from the former owners of our house except I could see it was from Boots on the label. I spent an hour on hold to customer services who then refused to contact the former owners and tell them it was here "because of GPDR". I told them several times that I wasn't asking for their address, just for Boots to send a quick email to let them know it had arrived at their old house. They kept telling me to bring it in store for a return. It was in the early stages of covid and as I'd had a kidney transplant I have no immune system so was told to shield. I still feel guilty for throwing it away. They were lovely during the conveyancing and had left us a note with loads of info on the house when we bought it. Now I've seen these responses I feel worse for not thinking to contact the estate agents!
