Do you know anyone eccentric?

I don't think I know any true eccentrics personally, although there was a woman where I used to live who wore a mish mash of clothes. I just wondered if anyone knows of any eccentrics? I always quite admire unusual people.

Yes one of my best friends is very eccentric, wears some interesting outfits sometimes costumes. She’s also quite loud and gets shouty when she gets excited. Lol she’s a good person and an amazing friend but we do get a lot of attention when we go out in public places, that’s something I struggle with as I’m a shy person who just likes to blend into the background… But I would never want my friend to change.

It would be a boring world if everyone was the same…

Yep, my town is full of them.

Yes, my brother is eccentric, but for him, it's all about attention seeking.

He's the guy who's always bought weird cars, i.e. either a normal car in extreme colour such as lime green, or just a "weird" car i.e. he once had one of those ridiculous looking "boxy" cars (I think it was a Fiat Multiplar) which he only bought because it looked stupid (he admitted that!).

He's had a lifetime of short-term hobbies/interests, usually based around attention seeking - he's never done anything "quiet" like fishing or stamp collecting. He's done amateur dramatics, being a DJ, organising events, firework displays - does it for a couple of years, gets bored and moves to something else.

He started getting interested in vintage vehicles, but of course, not a vintage Ford Anglia or Escort, it had to be attention seeking, so started with a military land rover ambulance, but didn't get enough attention, so moved onto a fire engine, still not enough attention, so now he's got a bloody great WW2 tank in his drive!

Yes but like true eccentrics, she does not think she is one. Offbeat sense of humour, very quirky.

This, if someone tells you they are eccentric then they arent really.

Reminds me of when there was the trend of calling yourself a geek/nerd. No one who is a geek/nerd actually thinks of themselves as one.

Yes I know someone who lives a practically hermetic life on a boat, off grid. Wonderful.

I have a lot of friends who are on the eccentric/bohemian side but one in particular stands out as a true eccentric.
He thinks differently from everyone else, but doesn’t realise it.
He thinks of himself as a mainstream sort of bloke… he is so not. I can't really give examples of what he is like, as it would be so outing.

From my childhood town

We had purple lady. Everything she had was purple. Her hair, her clothes, her shoes, her bag. Rumours were that her house and furniture was purple too.

We also had a guy who permanently wore a furry bunny outfit. I saw him a few years later as an adult on a traffic police programme getting into trouble for distracting drivers by waving at the cars from a motorway bridge. In hindsight though, although we thought he was eccentric at the time, he probably had a learning disability of some sort.

Yes, my sister for one, and one of my son's mates.
Basically they both walk to the beat of their own drum. My sister dresses a bit odd at times, but my son's friend doesn't. But his mannerisms snd just personality are like no other. He was bullied a lot at school. Very bright, but he hated school and he sat to take his first GCSE and then just got up and left never to return. His mum sent him to a boarding school to retake and he has thrived there. Still as odd as they come.

I know a few.
I'd say some are people who hover just on the right side of mental illness, to be honest. People whose boundaries don't sit quite where everyone else's do. They have lucked out avoiding alcoholism or similar coping strategies, discovered a self soothing activity that's a bit healthier, like art or music.

I work with a few people who have found productive outlets for their creativity, who might struggle otherwise.

Some people are individuals because they reject society's expectations.
Others, because they can't grasp them.

My partner is very eccentric! The mad professor type but he's also autistic which means people often think he's very strange. It breaks my heart as he's actually very sweet.

Genuinely love the sound of your brother @Badbadbunny - the idea of driving a tank around is absolutely brilliant. I feel like he has a lot of fun in life.
