Would you move into a murder house?

Inspired by another thread about knowing someone has died in their home. Personally I would be uncomfortable knowing that, thankfully I live in a new build 🤣

But seems many don’t seem to mind… So was just curious how mumsnetters would feel about moving into a house where a gory murder has taken place? Let’s say it’s a beautiful house in the perfect area and the price is low due to the history of the house. It’s way under budget and seems like a good deal…

So would you move in? Would you be worried about hauntings and energies in the house?

I don't think I'd like it, with the history of the house. I wouldn't be worried about hauntings though. People have probably died in most houses in general though.

Ponderingwindow · 19/12/2022 03:58

If you really think about it, many homes have been host to all sorts of horrible violence other than murder. Most of it domestic violence that never gets reported to the police. The kind of thing that happens again and again. If you are worried about the bad energy that might be in a home, you should be worried about the deep psychic scars that could be inflicted by sustained, repetitive violence on innocents.

or you could realize that it is just a building.

No I would not. I don't believe in ghosts but am very sensitive to atmospheres, for example Bodmin gaol and the battlefield at Battle had me in tears. The Jews believe in 'shades' and I go along with that to some extent, it makes sense to me.

What are shades?

Shades

My did had a pub where someone had killed themselves in an upstairs bedroom, probably 25 years before I went to visit. It was in the room I would stay in, it was unnerving!

I'd be fine if someone had died in a house, but not murdered. I don't know why, probably just that I'd think of it all the time which would be depressing.

I am not aiming this at you but the Idea if a person bought a house and did not know there is a murder I am not sure anyone would be able to tell there is an atmosphere?

If they were told before buying it 'just so you know there was a murder here' then the potential buyer felt something

Is the 'presence' / 'atmosphere' actually there or just there when people are aware of the history?

dontmakeitaweproblem · 19/12/2022 05:59

We had a murder at a house across from me people don't stay long think it's 2/3 couples that have lived in the house so far.

PineappleVision · 19/12/2022 06:01

I have lived somewhere where there was a violent murder. There was no bad feeling there.

Simonjt · 19/12/2022 06:05

Someone was murdered on the stairs in my last flat (we were then when it happened, we didn’t see the act, we heard it and by the time we went into the communal area the murderer was gone, but we did of course see the body on the stairs). It was fine, it was obviously very sad and I would often think of him as I passed his door.

lurkinglittleladybug · 19/12/2022 06:18

Do you think though that if something really bad happens in a place it kind of leaves an energy imprint… Like a stain in a place?

I remember someone telling me that when they visited auschwitz they could feel that awful atmosphere in that space and that the birds didn’t sing there. 🤔

I wonder if the same thing might happen in a house that has had something violent happen in it like a murder?

I think this would be the clincher for me.
What is the atmosphere like?

And even if fine, I would bring in a Reverend to deal with "things" and pray, just in case.

KatherineJaneway · 19/12/2022 06:28

I'd have to visit it to know.

TofuonToast · 19/12/2022 06:32

Yeah it depends on the atmosphere. Does it give me the tingles or not?

Birds sing at Auchwitz. Trees grow too. It's a myth that nothing lives there.

It's very haunting though, to know so many people were murdered there, but believe me, if you didn't know, you might think it was just an army camp. It's full of green now.
