Red patches from fragmin - photos

I've been taking fragmin for over 5 weeks now and have five days to go.

It's been fine, except some bruising and lumps.

However, I noticed today that my tummy has several large, red, swollen plaques on, where the injections have been given.

I'm worried that it may be a delayed hypersensitivity to the injections and don't know whether to take the next 5 days or not. There is no point changing them for another brand and I'm more mobile now anyway.

I've included some photos, but not great quality as hard to take.

It's also impossible to speak to my gp at the moment, so not sure who to ask anyway

I'm seeing the consultant in Tuesday morning, so may skip tomorrow night's jab and ask her then.

I had these when pregnant. I stopped taking any version of LMW heparin, and I tried them all. Post C section I had something expensive (£25 a shot the doctor said) and now I have tablets for non baby related post surgery (apixiban).

I'd send a message to your doctor's surgery stating why you had the heparin, what is happening and that you are coming off them. Ask them to get in touch if they want you to do anything different.

Thank you, that is what I will do.

I injected fragmin all through my last pregnancy and had loads of red raised lumps like this. I found they were less bothersome if i injected into the top of my thigh!

How do you rotate the site were you inject? If you were to divide your tummy in to four quadrants it’s advised to inject in one quadrant maximum 7 times then rotate to another one. Also I agree with another poster to try inject in your thigh, patients often say to me this is a lot more comfortable.

The best place to get further advice about this is call 111 or contact your prescriber as they will have a better understanding of your medical background.

Thank you both, that is very helpful, I was scared it was an allergic reaction.

I'm taking them after foot surgery, not sure why so long though.

My husband injects me, but we both struggle to to remember where the last site was. We try to avoid bruises, veins and stretch marks (which leaves little space to use). Will try to use thigh.

I was just scared it was a sign of an allergic reaction.
