Lovely cleaner/helper
Stopped using her during covid because stay at home protect the nhs etc
Paid her one month for no work but then stopped
Then when she could
Come back DH had no job so we had to stop. We explained why and said sorry, gutted to lose you. She returned key
She is local and has baby Sat for us and also done one other one off clean for us
I have treated myself to her coming for three hours. Do I round up her money?
Or buy a box of chocs?
I can't see us being able to afford her regularly in the next year...
but value her

I think although a box of chocolates might be vocally appreciated, an extra fiver or tenner( whatever you can afford) is far more versatile. You can’t pay bills with chocolates. At least if she has a bit spare in January she can decide to have chocolates.

You won’t be her only client that has had to cut back like this. That little Christmas box could save her week.

Posh woolly scarf /hat.
Nice gloves.
Posh chocolates.

Nice slippers.
Posh biscuit box.

Last new year I got a five pound note off my oldest customer with insistance I treat myself to something nice. Got a small bottle of Chambord.. Delicious!

My mum was a cleaner for years. I think £5 is pretty mean to be honest. If you can afford to give her an extra 20 or even a weeks pay, do.

Lots of people will say you don't have to give her anything and of course you don't, but the above would be nice.

I'd say a weeks pay is about right, two if you can afford it, but if you can't then a box of chocs completely fine. Lots of cleaners on MN confirm that they appreciate the recognition and thanks whatever form it comes in

A weeks pay and a box of chocolates. Or a gift voucher if you don't want to give cash.

Thanks for the replies.

She doesn't clean for me every week. Hasn't for over two years .

She is coming just before Xmas so feel like I need to recognise the season.. but I would likely be paying about £40 for the works she is doing.
To give an extra £20 seems a lot

As it's only a one off clean I'd probably get some nice chocs and tip a fiver. We have 2 cleaners who come together every week and I plan to get them a plant and tip £20.
