I am thinking about purchasing saxenda weight loss injections, can anyone share how much weight they’ve lost and what their stories are?

thanks

I have lost 4 stone this year taking saxenda from March til today ( I have run out, not getting more til next year)

I've had a few breaks and have not taken the higher dose as it is too expensive

Side effects for me were minimal. A bit of nausea

I get mine via private prescription boots/Asda

Creamcracker92 · 18/12/2022 21:14

That’s what I was going to do purchase it from boots, it’s good to hear you’ve lost so much weight.
its encouraging me more to purchase this, are you happy to share what food you can eat per day please? Or does it completely stop you eating your three regular meals?
thanks for replying

Bump as have just started taking a couple of weeks ago. I lost 4lbs in my first week but my auntie has lost 4 stone this year on Saxenda, my uncle has lost a fair amount too and my cousin has even lost two stone just because her parents are eating less! Today I have eaten a slice of banana loaf, half a sandwich and a chicken wrap (by itself) and I’m absolutely stuffed, borderline nauseous. Definitely recommend so far as I normally have no off switch when it comes to food, especially during my period which is now!

No I can still eat my 3 meals but I do sometimes 'forget'

The hunger goes away. And you literally half your portions. So you need to make good nutritious choices and still calorie count

When I've come off Sax for a break I have felt the hunger come back, that's when it gets difficult. But it does help with portion control.

I would have 1 slice of toast or crumpet at breakfast, with a small coffee and a satsuma or a yogurt with fruit

Lunch would be pitta/salad, apple....could never manage more. So no crisps etc

Dinner. Normal meal just a lot less. Spag Bol,chilli, jacket potatoe or fish

I lost majority of my weight in the summer so incorporated exercise with dog walking and gardening

Went from size 20 to size 16 but sometimes in a 14 now. I'm 53 and taking HRT alongside

Started on Saxenda in Feb, needed to lose 4 stone. Lost 1st stone and a bit really quickly but then stalled for a long time and also suffered with the side effects badly (the sulphur burps are literally the worst thing I've ever experienced!). I switched to Ozempic in August and the weight came off much quicker, currently on 3.5 stone loss, and no side effects at all. Ozempic is also a once-weekly injection as opposed to a daily injection and more cost effective than Saxenda (£150 a month for Ozempic vs £250 a month for Saxenda when you get up to the full dose).

There are a few groups on Facebook, if you are on it, which are really informative about both medicines and will help you make an informed decision - just search Saxenda or Ozempic and they will come up.

Lost 12lbs in 10 months using it intermittently with no exercise.

Go on the saxenda support pages on fb. Lots of great advice and success stories.

First time I used it I reacted badly. I learnt that you don’t have to start at the start dose, you can move up slowly, it’s referred to as clicks. With the pen I think it’s 10 clicks of the pen to reach each dose. When I restarted I just used a couple of clicks at a time to build up my tolerance to it. I have to do this with other medications sometimes too, so it’s not just saxenda.

Some people have absolutely no side effects at all.

Keep a diary of what your eating, if you do get bad side effects you can see what foods your eating trigger them. It also might not have been something you ate that day, but a day or 2 earlier.

Common side effects, Sulphur burps, for me I know as soon as I get these I’m going to eventually vomit, usually hours later after lots of nausea. Lots of people get them without the vomiting though. Green tea helps a lot, so dose peppermint tea.

My trigger foods are anything hard to digest, a lot of green veg, broccoli, cabbage, onions, high fibre foods, anything spicy.

Carbs are a big trigger for many.

Another thing for me, I still eat “unhealthy” foods, but in a far more controlled way. I will have a bowl of sugar puffs for breakfast, but instead of 2 giant pasta bowl size potions, I eat a tiny bowl with skimmed milk and I’m full for hours. I will still have a McDonald’s or pizza, but again in very small potions.

Constipation is also common as well as fatigue, the fatigue gets better as you get use to not eating so much.

I’ve been off it a week as I’ve been ill, my appetite is back with a vengeance. I’m hoping to restart again tomorrow.

Good Luck.

What is the required criteria and the cost, please?

You need to have a bmi over 30 I believe and the cost is £150 for three pens or £250 for five pens when your doses increase

If you have any medically weight related issues as well as high bmi. I have obstructive sleep apnea.

It is supposed to be available on the nhs but not easy to get. It’s mainly prescribed for people with diabetes.

I just buy it from asdas online pharmacy.

I take it you need a prescription to buy from Asda's online pharmacy?

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 23/02/2023 20:06

No, you don’t need a prescription,
you just need to fulfil some weight and medical criteria and be able
to afford it.
I tried it and it’s definitely effective for weight loss, but I found the constant nausea unbearable. Was like being pregnant again.

desperatedespy · 23/02/2023 23:54

Do you know what the weight and medical criteria are? Is my BMI too low at 30?

Lisa5115 · 26/04/2023 06:29

I am currently in week 3. I have lost 14 pounds. The side effects have been minimal, and are a little stronger on a day that I increase dosage. The notable side effects are a light nausea when it is time to eat, or after a meal in which I have eaten more than I should. I am incredibly pleased with the results of this medication - https://healthеxpress.co.uk/saxenda

Can I ask if anyone who has an underactive thyroid found it works for them?
Thanks.

Charlieiscool · 26/04/2023 09:12

Do we know if or how people manage to keep them weight off when they finish?
