What happened to that 'Don't Pay' thing?

I heard about the campaign over the summer but mostly ignored it because to be honest I didn't understand how it could work. I'd forgotten all about it until I saw a flyer stuck up on a wall the other day, and now I'm wondering what if anything came of it. I haven't seen anything on the news about energy bill strikes (not that I've been following closely) or heard it mentioned by anyone. Did you or anyone you know refuse to pay your bills as a protest, and if so what happened?

Apparently the action was called off in September by the organisers Don't Pay UK because fewer than a fifth of the one million bill payers they wanted to get had committed to it.

Some people didn’t pay all summer and now have massive debts with the energy companies (is that what you’re talking about?)

Anyone who has run up large debt by not paying has probably been forced onto a pre-payment meter.

It was a stupid idea?

I imagine most of the people who declared on social media they weren't going to pay had no intention of following this through in real life. If you fall into arrears on your energy bills, you will be lumped with a pre-payment meter and no one would want that.
