Anyone else have it and is it worth it .

www.aldi.co.uk/easy-home-upright-heated-airer/p/720139669901200

it’s the £89.99 one, not the very cheap one . It’s not much cheaper , with the £9.99 postage for heavy items , than the John Lewis or Dunelm one . So did I get caught up in the hype !

Depending in postage of John Lewis, seems same price .

I have yet John Lewis one. We aren't using our tumble dryer for now and our radiators are for heating the house. It's a godsend. Although it would be tough if I had small kids

Brrhitscold · 18/12/2022 12:19

I definitely want one .

I had my eye on the John Lewis but it’s out of stock .

im just wondering if I’ve got caught up in the hype of Aldi being cheapest as with postage it’s the same cost as John Lewis .And similar Dunelm .

itis cheaper than. Lakeland equivalent.

it has a cover , which JL doesn’t .

will compare sizes , wattage etc

Any heated airer will do the job OP. John Lewis, Dunelm and Lakeland probably offer an extended warranty and easier return.

You should use a dehumidifier in conjunction with the airer.

terriblemustard · 18/12/2022 12:28

I have the John Lewis one and it's genuinely revolutionised my life!

I can get a whole load dry overnight. We don't have a tumble dryer so just had to rely on a normal airer and I'd have to leave it for 2+ days to dry. Often stuff would smell a bit weird and damp. I've seen the bottom of my laundry basket for the first time since the summer!

Make sure you put a duvet cover over it if it doesn't come with a cover, as it traps all the heat in and dries really efficiently. Otherwise you just get strips of dried clothes and the rest is wet.

snowinthesticks · 18/12/2022 12:35

I have one.
They are a useful addition to other ways of drying but not a substitute for a tumble dryer if you normally use one.
Pros - cheap to heat, great for finishing damp items, good for blankets and bedding. You can drape something over the top like a tent.
Cons - fiddly to hang things. Only dries what touches.

Mine is currently draped with blankets. DS came home for Christmas with all his bedding and blankets as he struggles to dry in his damp flat.

If you have a non heated airer, buy a 1ltr dehumidifier and position it so the exhaust vent points warm air at the washing , or put it underneath if there is air space either side. If you then put a normal fan close to a radiator pointing over the airer it will speed up the drying process greatly. You could also put a fitted sheet coming from the radiator over the airer 😉 costs about 6p an hour.

I have a dehumidifier, using that to help dry at the moment .

I’m using my dehumidifier at the moment, but still takes days. Do what you say re positioning .

I definitely want a heated airer . My concern though is I’ve rushed to get this aldi one thinking it’s a great bargain, but it seems no cheaper than the John Lewis and Dunelm ones .

feel I got caught in the hype. It’s compared price wise to Lakeland ones, but John Lewis and Dunelm are cheaper than Lakeland and more or less same price as Aldi.

so is it really a brain and cheaper ?

I’ve got the X wing Aldi one and it works brilliantly for a quick airing but I dry clothes using my meaco dehumidifer which dries a load of washing overnight I imagine In conjunction it would dry even faster

longtompot · 18/12/2022 13:28

I have the Lakeland Drysoon one which when I used to put a whole load on would take days to dry (I just switch it on in the daytime). But now we have a Victorian pulley airer so have the heated one in the same room with windows slightly open, and can get two loads dry in a day or so. I put trousers & jeans and jumpers on the pulley airer with underwear hung off the ends, and tops on the heated one, folded and laid over however many bars I can depending on how many I have to dry. I also dry bedding on the pulley airer. Towels get tumble dried which is very quick and only once a week.

GorgeousLadyofWrestling · 18/12/2022 13:37

I honestly don’t understand the hype for this kind of airer. I got one and wish I hadn’t! It takes a good couple of days to dry things, even with a cover, and I’m constantly rearranging things to make sure they dry everywhere.

Wish I’d stuck with the Dri Buddi.

Brrhitscold · 18/12/2022 14:09

Does anyone think the Aldi tower one is a bargain as it doesn’t seem cheaper than Dubelm and John Lewis ? It has a cover , but sheets I expect are just as good .

Those saying to use a heated airer in conjunction with a dehumidifier - wouldn't an ordinary clothes horse in conjunction with a dehumidifier do the same job? And the dehumidifier can be used in other areas of the house too.

Brrhitscold · 19/12/2022 12:55

Can anyone answer what I was asking , is Aldi actually a bargain as it doesn’t seem cheaper than Dunelm and John Lewis .

OP posts:
TwoMonthsOff · 19/12/2022 14:42

@spookypump
yes that’s what I do I use an ordinary airer with the dehumidifier but using the heated one would halve the drying time probably, and in an un heated room I should imagine the air would be a few degrees warmer so a cumulative effect. I tend to use my heated one when the laundry is dry just to air it a bit.
