Cheaper west end theatre tickets

Dd really wants to see Phantom for her birthday. It would need be a Saturday matinee.

Given I need to get train tickets and lunch as well I wanted to see if I could get a deal on these somehow but I do also want to get reasonable seats given it's a proper treat (she's had a tough year).

I've had a look around at a few websites but there doesn't seem to be much wiggle room. Is this because it's a Saturday matinee? I am not wedded to date but a Saturday in Feb is what we're aiming for.

The annual London theatre ticket sale is on at the moment officiallondontheatre.com/sale/. But they don't seem to have sale prices for Saturdays, so that is probably the issue.!

I can't remember what it is called but if your DD is still a child there is a scheme called kids week in the summer but think there might be one in spring too but don't remember the name that are half price tickets or at least cheaper ones to encourage children into the theatres

Yes, kids go free in the West End throughout August (Kids Week promotion) but its harder to find deals the rest of the years except very last minute, at weekends anyway. I use the TodayTix app to keep an eye on offers.

What the total budget for both of you?

lugeforlife · 18/12/2022 12:04

Thanks all.

I don't really have a budget per se. I would prefer tickets in the stalls/Royal Circle rather than right up the back.

I did think about last minute tickets but I may be able to get train tickets cheaper if I buy in advance (they will cost 100 for us) and looking at what seats are available the good seats seem to fairly limited for Feb now anyway.

Those sale tix are great btw but you are right, no Saturdays. Made me wish I still lived in London!

There is a website that tells you best seats in theatres with colour coding so there might be a couple of random seats with fantastic view or others in semi expensive ones with a worse view iyswim

another option is to consider a coach break that includes theatre tickets. Maybe around £150 each stay at outer London hotel and breakfast includes theatre tix.

If you do go by train and will cost £100 consider getting a rail card. Save 30% and it last all year.

I usually do the rail /tickets independently but it is much more expensive than the coach trips.

Tickets around £60 each is the minimum I'd pay for west end now. But I won't also pay over £100.

Only time they are significantly cheaper for under 16's is for kids theatre week in august. You are likely to be able to get cheaper tickets on the day as it's an older show but they aren't realised until the day of. We go with an idea of 3 or 4 shows we fancy and see what we can get cheap
