Teen mental health

I've got a teen with suicidal thoughts. He won’t accept help from anyone .. GP, counsellor or teen mental health services because he wants to die. To access any help (privately or NHS) my son first needs to talk to the GP so we are stuck. We got our own family counsellor to support us as we are finding this so hard.

Can someone from school offer you support?

Sadly he’s too anxious to go in to see anyone.

My heart goes out to you. I can only say, hang on in there yourself. Try and keep a routine going, the structure will help you all through this time. So go through the motions of cooking dinner etc.

There are a million and one mental health 'helplines' and websites but without him wanting to engage I know there might as well be nothing.

Sending you a lot of love and understanding. This is not your fault.

He is here now and that means that things can change.

Get him down to a+e
where they should have a mental health crisis team -
if he’s suicidal and not engaging with help because he actually wants to die you need to take control and get him assessed
you should be able to speak to the local nhs mental health crisis team by phone and organise someone coming out to see him and assess and take it from there
