Come tell me about your amazing duvet

Looking for a new one after mine has gone all lumpy and wrong. It was only a stopgap anyway or supposed to be but I never got around to replacing it. Now it’s driving me crackers every night.

I grew up with feather duvets which I didn’t mind but I’m not sure how ethical they are and there’s so many more alternatives these days.

I’m looking at a wool one, does anyone have a good word for them? Or a bad one?

I’m incredibly cold but DH is warm blooded and has night sweats from medication so looking for a happy medium. What I really want is twin beds like Basil and Sybil Fawlty but it’s not to be Grin

I have a Woolroom washable all seasons duvet. It was so expensive but the best money I have ever spent. It's two duvets peppered together for winter and then two different weights for the other three seasons.

My wool room one is fab, I wouldn't use anything else!

Another Baavet fan. I keep it on the bed all year round. Even in this super hot summer. The only thing is that to start with there was quite a sheepy smell.

DP is very sensitive to smells and he told me for three days there was an awful sheepy sort of smell, and then he either got used to it or it faded.
We both sleep under a king size quilt, and I have a weighted blanket on me too. No issues. And I'm peri menopausal, it's the best of both worlds for now.

BertieBotts · 17/12/2022 22:22

We've been using separate duvets on one king sized bed for about 2 years now since DH got the guest duvet when I was being a duvet hog Grin and never put it back. I have finally embraced this and bought myself a smaller one that's easier to change.

We had IKEA lyocell and that was a great medium for me if you're desperate to share - but separate is the way. Go for the in between single and a half size so you can overlap for sex.

Love our wool duvet. Never too hot or too cold, no clamminess. Always exactly right. I will say though, if you like your duvet to loft around you, a wool duvet doesn't do that.

What does that mean?

I like my duvet to settle on me and have a nice weight. I don't like them to be too light and airy.

GenialHarryGr0ut · 17/12/2022 22:24

The baavet sheep smell disappeared after a couple of days

To be honest I didn't find it unpleasant

Bestcatmum · 17/12/2022 22:25

My night owl coverless duvet. Its only 10.5 tog but super toasty and I can sling the whole thing in the washing machine and it's dry in an hour.

moggerhanger · 17/12/2022 22:28

Another vote for a Devon Duvet. Ours is on for most of the year, as it seems to help us adjust to the outside temperature. We only take it off in the hottest weather. It was pricey (and is a faff to clean) but I adore it.

2020Raquet · 17/12/2022 22:41

Asthmatic so have always avoided feather, found synthetic didn’t regulate my menopausal temperature and tried wool for a year or so but, although it was reasonable at regulating temperature, it always felt too flat and heavy? Now I have a silk duvet which I love. Still not as light and fluffy as down/synthetic but not as flat and heavy as wool. 7 tog keeps both myself and my husband happy even in recent freezing temperatures and with very minimal heating. In summer I just use a flat sheet and a wool cellular blanket, which doesn’t look overly inviting but at least I don’t feel I am cooking overnight!

StarCourt · 17/12/2022 22:50

i have a woolroom one and love it

Pelo22 · 17/12/2022 23:00

@BertieBotts wool ones are quite flat and not... poofy sort of cloudy duvets if that makes sense!

FluffyPJs · 17/12/2022 23:05

I second bestcatmum with the night owl coverless duvet. We have the normal one and the waffle one. No more struggling to put the covers on, just throw the duvet in the wash, dry it and then throw it back on the bed. Super easy and very warm. We have the summer ones and winter ones, and also have them as singles so I can have the thin one (night sweats) and my husband can have the thick one. I'll never go back to normal duvets with covers!

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 18/12/2022 14:30

Thanks guys. I hadn’t thought of wool as being kind of flat actually. I do like a lofty poofy duvet. The slight pong of sheep does also give me pause for thought.

I really like the look of the vegan down one actually. Might be the one for me. It’s a damn shame all the department stores have buggered off within reach of me as this would absolutely be useful to go and squish some options.

My stupid illogical brain also winces at the price of some but then if you think about cost per use it’s me being daft.

We have the Dusk bedding all season 80% goose down duvet and I love it. You get a pair of duvets, one is 9tog and the other is 4.5. You can also clip them together to make a 13.5 one which is really toasty in cold weather.

ZeppelinTits · 18/12/2022 17:20

Soak & Sleep Ultimate Microfibre with Silk Duvet. Absolute heaven, soft squidgy and mallow soft. Feels like down, and very warm and cosy. The filling will eventually start to ball up a bit inside the pockets but not for years and you can tease it apart again if you have patience. This is a cracking duvet. I'd buy another instantly.

Indoorcatmum · 18/12/2022 17:29

Silk! 100% the best 💕
