London Southbank fancy tea/cake recommendation...

London locals.... Anywhere walking distance of Tate modern/southbank that would be good for cake/drinks? Somewhere that feels like a treat and fun for DC. I thought about afternoon tea but it costs a fortune and we barely make a dent in the food.
Could be cake/ice cream/donuts/waffles etc. Just needs to feel "fancy".

There are lots of food stalls along the South Bank at the moment. If you don't mind a picnic it can be really fun 😀

That was my plan until I saw the weather. Constant rain!

If you grab something from a food stall, you can go to to the top floor of the Royal Festival Hall where there's loads of spots you could eat it - even a covered terrace with amazing views over the river. Not many people seem to know you can do that so it does feel like a bit of a secret thing and therefore quite special.

Rabot 1745 in Borough Market is a Hotel Chocolat cafe. Definitely do decadent hot chocolates and chocolate treats, not sure about cake.

Where The Pancakes Are in Flat Iron Square may be an option too - sweet and savory pancakes

I can't think of anywhere. Best option is probably to look at the area on Google Maps and see what's nearby.

There are plenty of restaurants and coffee shops but aimed at adults. How old are the children? Looks like there's a gelateria at Oxo Tower.

Look around the back of Tate Modern and towards the main road too not just along the river. There's a Gail's Bakery - not sure if that counts as fancy or just expensive!

You could also look across the other side of the Millennium Bridge around St Paul's, but again it's mostly geared towards adults.

There are plenty of places to eat/drink but not necessarily what you have in mind for children.

There’s a Caffe Concerto on Northumberland Avenue which is just over the river from Southbank.

Thanks for this. We arrived late and the rain was pretty relentless. Had some pizza at Gabriel's Wharf just for somewhere dry and DC starving by then. Got some treats (fudge was actually wet !) and went into a completely empty Festival Hall. Literally a washout of an evening. I was here last weekend with friends for Xmas singing and it was buzzing. Oh well!

I am looking at some of these up for a treat tomorrow.
