Do you still do Christmassy stuff with DC after Christmas?

The time between Christmas and New Year tends to be the time we get together with family and with friends, so yes. Usually big family meet up at various houses.
We have things we traditionally do to - sports fixtures on Boxing Day. Walks as a family. Tend to play some board games which we don't do the rest of the year.

Oh, and catch up on Christmas TV.
When they were younger, things like playing with / putting together / using their new things from Christmas.

Yes, it's my favourite time of year. We go to the pantomine on DSs birthday, we have a big family party for Hogmanay, we play board games and build lego sets and go for wintery walks and generally have a lovely time on holiday at home. Much better than before Christmas when work is busy, there's lots to prepare, there's 101 school concerts, and Christmas parties for every activity etc etc.

Also, Christmas is 25th Dec to 5th Jan so the time for Christmassy activities when we're actually on holiday.

Doughnuts68 · 17/12/2022 01:09

I just thought the way people talk as if Christmas is over straight after presents are open and no more activities.

You must be talking to the wrong people Smile

Obviously everyone's circumstances are different and not everyone has family that they love, but for me that time has always been the lovely relaxed time. It ties in with when the dc are off school for a start.

Doughnuts68 · 17/12/2022 16:59

Using -I know dc are off, that’s what doesn’t make sense?

Also they stop showing Christmas films after Christmas Day.

I am on the most basic package with my provider, and can watch Catch-up TV for the last 7 days. Usually for a month on i-Player. I rarely watch any TV on Christmas Eve / Christmas Day / Boxing Day and watch it all afterwards.

mondaytosunday · 18/12/2022 17:55

When younger we visited relatives or they came to us (now three grandparents gone, last one in a home with minimal memory), maybe a panto, chill. As much as I love Christmas I'm a bit fed up with it all by New Years, my husband would be back at work by the 2nd, and it would feel like it was over. This year my daughter goes back to school on the 4th so tree will come down by then.

kittenkipping · 18/12/2022 21:25

Christmas films for us stop on Boxing Day- but that's because we'll have exhausted all the good ones by that point. See also for some mysterious reason Christmas jumpers - never worn after Boxing Day. However Games/ feasting/ family/ shows all very much still on the rota!

No they don't.

Cam you even read a Radio Times, or do you only watch the Hallmark channel?

My DD watches Xmas films all year! You can stream anything.

We will be doing walks, extended family, theatre, baking and crafts. I’m off work until 3rd so we will be doing things all week. I don’t have much time before Xmas to do them.

RoseAndRose · 18/12/2022 21:57

Christmas lasts 12 days, so after Christmas means after Twelfth Night and yes I think that would be rather too late to continue the festivities after 6 January (though I know some people do keep going to Candlemas)

kittenkipping · 18/12/2022 22:40

Jackiedaws- what an awful and derogatory response! What happened to you to make you be this way? Of course they can read. And if they only watch hallmark - that doesn't make a person lesser than you! Very very few people buy radio times. Which given the environmental crisis is probably for the best.

EternalCountrygirl · 22/12/2022 18:39

Yes! Of course! The twelve days of Christmas begin on Christmas Day! I’ve always hated that people think Christmas is over just because they’ve opened all their presents and stuffed themselves with food. I feel it detracts from what’s special about Christmas time

DappledThings · 22/12/2022 19:31

After Christmas? So from 6th Jan onwards? Not really, although there is a panto we go to that is only on every 2 years in February so there's that. During Christmas so 25th December to 5th January? Yes, definitely.

Purpleskies46 · 23/12/2022 01:29

Until the 6th jan?
