Cordless hoover on a budget?

My Dyson cordless has given up. I didn't realise how much I loved and relied on it for a quick whizz round. I also have a new cat that kicks cat litter everywhere....

I can't afford to replace it with another dyson. Are there any cheap/er alternatives, to use for mostly hard floors? That are still good? It needn't be one with a really long charge, I use it for less than 10 minutes, often less than 5, it's just so convenient.

I share your love of your Dyson, I'm disabled and vacuuming is quick and literally painless.
EBay have an dyson outlet selling refurbished stock, I bought a v7 motor head which was pristine and guaranteed.
Also depending on how knackered it is, dyson sell literally every part on their website and their customer service is excellent.so it may be possible to replace the broken parts

I just got a half price Dyson cordless in John Lewis, very impressed!

Bemyclementine · 16/12/2022 13:25

@uncomfortablydumb53 I don't know what's wrong with it tbh. It charges, but then just does an intermittent whirr when I try to use it. Like it's going on,/off/on/off.

We have the bush cordless from sainsburys/argos, was around £85 and honestly one of the best hoovers I've had!

KillingMeDeftly · 16/12/2022 13:28

Do you mean a cordless upright/stick hoover or a handheld one? If it's the latter my Shark is brilliant. I bought a poor Beldray imitation the first time around but tbh wish I'd saved that money and got the Shark to begin with!

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/12/2022 13:30

Beko do several starting at £89 at ao.com. Customer service is good too.

MontyMarsh · 16/12/2022 13:35

On off on off? Have you checked for blockages?

Bemyclementine · 16/12/2022 13:52

An upright stick.

@MontyMarsh I've taken the cone filter bit out and thoroughly cleaned it, that did the trick before but not this time. I'm going to have a look now, I'd be delighted if it was an easy fix such as a blockage!

Thanks @Bluevelvetsofa the Beko has excellent reviews! I'm charging the old one and if I can't sort it by funding any hidden blockages, I'm going yo give it a try. Happy Christmas to me 🤣

@Bemyclementine
It could be the battery or the motor

uncomfortablydumb53 · 16/12/2022 14:15

Definitely try taking everything possible and rinse/ wipe before you give up

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 16/12/2022 15:03

I've got the Beldray cordless one. It works fine and I think was around the £55-£65 mark

Carlycat · 17/12/2022 02:52

Following. My Dyson is on the blink. Looking for an alternative. 5 cats here so need something fairly robust. I've heard Sharks are superior?

Slimjimtobe · 17/12/2022 03:03

Mine has given up but I’ve bought a new battery

Bemyclementine · 17/12/2022 17:11

It's working!! No blockages located but I think the "flap" might have jammed, I think it opens to suck? Anyway, it's working, but I think I'd go fir the beko with the good reviews when i have to replace it

This is so strange
mine has randomly started working having been dead after 10 seconds for the past two weeks

purdypuma · 17/12/2022 18:26

It might be worth trying another battery with your Dyson. I got a replica replacement 22.00 off Amazon & works a treat

I've got one of those and it's absolutely rubbish.

endofthelinefinally · 17/12/2022 18:57

I have a vax rechargeable and I love it. A guest dropped it on the tiled floor and broke the bit that clips the motor to the stick, but I easily got a new part on ebay and it is going strong. It is light weight which is important for me.

mincepiepie · 17/12/2022 19:18

I just got a shark to replace my v7 and it's a million times better!

But it's £190 so assuming that over budget.

Is it a main or second hoover?

Bemyclementine · 17/12/2022 19:26

It's a second hoover. I have the (lazy awkward bastard) Henry . But it's so cumbersome to get down the steep stairs, but the time I've carried it down snd plugged it in I can hoover most of downstairs with the dyson.

I use Henry for proper cleaning, the dyson for a daily whizz round
