Why do people see Prince Harry as 'young'?

So many people say that about him all the time.

He's nearly 40? I don't know anyone who would consider that a "young man".

Do people have an image of him of early 20s or something in their head do you think?

I do find it weird when Meghan and Harry are referred to as "younger" and "new" when Meghan is older than Willam and Catherine and Harry only a couple of years younger. Its seems bizarre. I don't know if it something to do

yes. they're all basically the same age!

William - 40
Meghan - 41
Kate - 40
Harry - 38

So, all middle-aged then.

Who calls him young though? Newsreaders? Press? the public? Who? I can’t say I’ve ever noticed.

Like how? Do the press write ‘Prince Harry, a young man, has a new Netflix show?’ 😬 I’m going to be looking out for it once I know
where to look.

YANBU he isn’t young. When Caroline Flack died at 40 everyone was calling her a ‘young woman’ it was really odd.

upfucked · 16/12/2022 10:20

Until very recently he didn’t have a wife an children, he didn’t/doesn’t have what people would consider to be a real job, he doesn’t have a mortgage. All markers of adulthood.

TrashyPanda · 16/12/2022 10:38

Nobody would call a woman in her mid/late 30s a “young mum” - would they?

JamSandle · 16/12/2022 10:51

As most of us live longer I think we see ages differently.

To me 30s and 40s is still young in the scheme of your life, not your teens or your 20s of course, but still young.

No, she'd be considered geriatric.

It is interesting that women tend to be aged up and men down in terms of treatment.

‘Cos he’s an immature prat?

Lilithslove · 16/12/2022 11:04

As someone around the same age as him I'm offended by your thread title 🙂

Angelicapickles1 · 16/12/2022 11:06

Because he seems stuck in the mentality of the 12 year old he was when his mother died. He is very immature and still expects his dad to bail him out

It’s the context though. Medically, a woman having children in her late 30s is ‘old’.

Caroline Flack dying at 40 is a young age to die at.

WaddleAway · 16/12/2022 11:08

He’s the same age as me and no one calls me young!

TowerStork · 16/12/2022 11:10

I don’t think anyone is disputing that people in their late 30s are still young in life terms. My parents in their 80s call 60 young. If a person died at 62 they’d be shocked (rightly) because the person is ‘so young’.

The issue is treating people in their late 30s (or even early 40s!) as though they are young adults in the sense of starting out in life and becoming independent. If you are 40, you’ve been an adult for 20+ years.

I will always see Prince Harry as the little boy behind the coffin. Just as I see my "little brother" (in his 30s) as a 10 year old still. For me they will always be those people. My brother gets away with a lot (forgetting Christmas and birthdays etc) because hes the baby of the family. We enable his behaviour and make excuses for it, one of which being his age. He is not held to the same career and life standards I would expect from my sisters.

00100001 · 16/12/2022 11:12

You said so many people call him young. Angela Epstein is a total twat who writes complete shit for the daily mail amongst others. So I wouldn’t really take much notice of what she says. Remember what she said about female pilots. 🤦🏻‍♀️Total nob.

Yeah I think that might be it. He's older than I am, but he was on quite the extended adolescence until fairly recently.

@00100001 Could you put these sorts of threads in the Royal Family topic please?

I have it hidden to try to avoid the deluge of H&M bilge but then people keep posting it in chat/AIBU etc.

What confused you about the topic of the thread enough for you to open it thinking it wasn’t about Prince Harry?

Sounds like a good dose of misogyny mixed up in that too.

Exactly what I was going to say. Men frequently aren’t held to the same standards as women.

Cuppasoupmonster · 16/12/2022 14:04

No, not misogyny. Like I said Caroline flack was often referred to as a ‘young woman’. I just think youth is very extended now (socially speaking)

Because he behaves like a childish, stroppy teenager who, when he doesn't get his way, throws a tantrum and whines about how unfair everyone is being to him.

Ah...Prince Kevin? 🤴🏻

I think it’s quite offensive of you to think of someone as adolescent because they’re not married or don’t have kids. Those are valid choices for anyone to make and more people, men and women are choosing that path. It’s quite sad you see marriage and kids as necessary to be an adult. A mortgage? My kids probably won’t ever have a mortgage either. One of my kids is in his 20s, he’s definitely an adult.
