Cadbury mini rolls in the bottom with fresh raspberries and baileys. Next layer posho custard. Next layer double cream with melted white choc. Top with crumbled flake. The easiest ever but YUM YUM

No jelly.

Trifle sponges or a Swiss roll if you want it to look prettier, madeira cake to fill in any gaps. Pale cream sherry, Maraschino cherries and the juice from the jar.
Crumbled up amaretti biscuits to add a bit of crunch.
Thick custard, loads of cream.
Flaked almonds on top.

I keep misreading this title as ‘Tell me about your favourite wife’.

Thecrackineverything · 18/12/2022 17:38

My current wife is my favourite. Which is lucky.

No jelly

No jelly! ( Mum always said it was common 🤣)

Sponge fingers or swiss roll, cream sherry, tinned raspberries, thick custard, thick whipped cream and flaked almonds on the top. My absolute favourite desert ever!

IHeartGeneHunt · 18/12/2022 17:45

Lemon Swiss roll.
Orange jelly with a small tin of mandarins.
Custard- made with Bird's powder, thicker than usual
Very slightly sweetened cream.

Decorated with whole glace cherries and jelly orange and lemon slices.

My mother, a degenerate, makes it with chocolate cake and angel delight. I won't eat it.

My mum used to do, swiss roll at the bottom, only with jam in it, not buttercream, then pour jelly over that to set in the fridge

The next layer is blamange, strawberry, set firm

The next layer was birds custard, set fairly firm

The next layer is cream and some sprinkles

No fruit bits and no alcohol.

Simple is best.

Jelly is common but then trifle is common! I’m a purist: shop-bought Swiss roll, jelly, bird’s custard, whipped cream, sprinkles. As God and nature intended.

Cherry triffle.

Get a panettone (if it has cherries in even better but a plain one will be fine). Slice it and spread with some decent quality cherry jam. Place in triffle bowl.

Get a jar of cherries in kirsch and spoon over the panettone.

Make a custard and stir in a slug of cherry brandy. Pour over the triffle.

If you wish, add some whipped cream (I don't bother).

Top with some fresh stoned cherries.

Enjoy your cherry triffle! Xmas Smile

slices of shop bought swiss roll
tinned pears
homemade set custard
whipped cream
a dusting of hundreds and thousands.

NO JELLY

unless someone else has made it and have added jelly, in which case I'll happily scoff it whilst thinking 'jelly? tut tut'.

Notreallyawaitress · 18/12/2022 18:30

Madeira cake generously drizzled with amaretto, raspberry compote, crushed amaretti biscuits, proper homemade custard, whipped cream, toasted flaked almonds, raspberries and glitter to finish!
No jelly 🤮

Dilbertian · 18/12/2022 18:31

What is this fixation with inserting raspberries into trifle? Nothing wrong with lovely fresh raspberries in season, but in a trifle they are pippy little food-mile mingers that utterly disrupt the wonderful texture of the dish. Worse even than 100s and 1000s - they at least dissolve. My teeth itch at the thought of raspberry pips stuck in them.

Brunelofbrio · 18/12/2022 18:38

Black Forest trifle. Choc sponge. Morello cherries ( of frozen sour cherries from Lidl) black cherry jelly and 100% has to be proper homemade egg custard ( with just a little gelatine to keep it solid) mmmmmm

These all sound amazing. I'm literally the only person in my family who likes trifle, so there's no point in me ever making one. If I was, I don't think I'd have alcohol in it, jelly would be fine. Swiss roll at the bottom. I really liked the sound of the jubilee one and was hoping some shop might have a ready made one I could work my way through...

you could make a mini trifle all for yourself. Enough for two generous servings: one for Christmas Day, and one for your breakfast on the 26th.

My mum's trifle is amazing. At the bottom put tinned mandarins and some sponge cake. Top with a mixture of whipped cream and yoghurt and decorate with flaked almonds and/or silver balls. I have no idea whether she made this up or got it from a magazine in the 1970s but she has been making it for years and I could eat it every day.

soggydigestives · 19/12/2022 09:42

A good variation DS loves is lemon drizzle cake on the bottom, tinned peaches, custard, thick cream, topped with flaked almonds and a few white chocolate buttons 😋
