Please watch this film about womens' rights / trans issues, and share widely if you agree with the message

I have name changed for this post, and will name change again afterwards, as it doesn't feel safe to speak openly / freely about this

Students blocked a showing of this film. So much for freedom of speech

Please keep this stuff in the Feminism section where it belongs. I’m here to judge if people ABU, it is inappropriate to put it where people will be ambushed by things they don’t wish to see.

It’s funny, I haven’t seen you post similar comments in threads about pets/education/relationships/TV shows etc etc.

HelsyQ · 15/12/2022 18:58

I’m fine with it.

well, @MyOpinion1978 you can't tell me what to do, you're not my real dad.

I think Chat is a perfectly good place to put this. It's a board with an overwhelmingly female membership. And they can chat about what they like, or just, you know, scroll on by.

Bumping

YeahThanks · 15/12/2022 19:08

I honestly think everyone should watch it.

Do you post on all the relationship threads that are in AIBU instead of the Relationship board?
Or when someone is struggling with their mental health and posts on AIBU or Chat because they just want to be heard?

I am glad to see this thread. I don't go on the Feminism boards at all as I don't consider myself intelligent enough to understand it all. But I can see why women being denied access to watch a film about their rights is problematic... and not something that should be shoved into a corner.

Helleofabore · 15/12/2022 19:16

XenoBitch

From reading your post here, I think you would be absolutely fine posting on the Feminism board. All you really need is an interest in understanding what is happening, and the ability to think for yourself.

This kind of post belongs everywhere. Maybe not pets, but it is important, and many women are oblivious to how this affects them.

I can’t believe men (and some men-prioritising women) are allowed to silence women like this. This is 2022, we shouldn’t be going backwards.
Gender ideology is the height of pseudoscience. I remember a cult expert writing about it on Twitter a couple of years ago, and being turned on by the gender cult with the very same behaviour he predicted, he was bullied to the point where he left Twitter. No group should have this much power, with all the corporate arse licking (I learnt recently that a very high end UK store are introducing pronouns on badges, staff will be fired if they refuse).
It’s such a dangerous situation for women, our rights being made effectively obsolete, we should be screening the film everywhere we possibly can.

Who are you to dictate to other Women where they can put threads.

Scroll on if you don't like the title.

I think it's disgusting that a man is stopping women from entering a building to watch this.

Thank you @catandcoffee . I completely agree. The more women who watch and read about the silencing and bullying of women the better! This is much too important a subject to hide away.

lifeturnsonadime · 15/12/2022 20:23

Glad to see that it's moved to chat.

Women take note.

Women who want to talk about women's rights, on a university campus, have been prevented from doing so by a bunch of activists in Edinburgh.

This at a time when laws are being changed to lower the age that a person can legally become the opposite sex and to make the process easier. This at a time when the First Minister of Scotland has totally ignored public opinion on the matter and the advise of many experts including one from the UN who has said that this will have a detrimental impact on women and girls. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/dec/01/nicola-sturgeon-rejects-un-concerns-about-reform-of-scotlands-gender-

Some people are quite desperate to shut women up about this. Even on these boards.

CountZacular · 15/12/2022 21:25

Well I finally had the time to watch today. It’s on YouTube for those who find that easier if you have the app or a smart TV:

m.youtube.com/watch?v=94HFMSm-JBo

My partner watched it with me and there’s a bit where one of women are explaining that for most left learning women, we automatically feel sympathy to the oppressed so when you just hear about ‘trans inclusive’ of course you want to jump to the defence and support them because who doesn’t want inclusivity and to defend those who need it?

It’s the digging deeper and seeing the implications as they play out in real life that makes up realise this isn’t really an oppressed class and in fact is harming women.

I’d urge people to watch it. It really quite dispels the ‘GC in bed with extreme right wing’ heating these eloquent, intelligent socialist women talk with histories in unions, campaigning for women’s rights, labour members, etc. I’d hope it would give you pause for thought. And if you do take the time to watch it and disagree with anything raised, it would be really interesting to hear your own counterpoints for discussion.

PinkOwlReading · 16/12/2022 13:43

Thank you so much for posting this where more women are likely to see it. I've just watched and it explains so eloquently everything I've been trying to explain to my teenage daughter. I'm going to make all my friends and family watch it

Sagittariusrising · 16/12/2022 16:35

Thank you for posting this. I've just finished watching it and really enjoyed it.

I've recently got into a debate with a woman at work about this and we respectfully agree to disagree but I might mention this to her and see whether she'd watch it.

I'm appalled at what happened in Edinburgh and wish this would be shown at all schools/universities but I doubt it will happen sadly.
