Ideas for desserts

Any ideas that I can provide for a dessert?

Have family coming Boxing Day. I rarely eat desserts, so have no intention of making anything. Only problem is our fridge and freezer are small and will packed with essentials for Xmas Eve/Day so no room for shop bought frozen/chilled puddings.

What would you provide? DH making a veggie chilli, served with tortillas, rice and pitta. I guess there's xmas pudding.

Hmm, if you have no fridge or freezer space then maybe some cake to have with coffee after

If you aren't going to make anything yourself, and you've got no fridge or freezer space, you're quite limited really!
Tinned fruit salad or tinned rice pudding?
Ask one of the guests to provide pudding?
Buy a cake or tart?
Fruit from the fruit bowl?

Christmas cake and cheese.
Or if no one's driving, ice cream with either Baileys or Advocaat poured over.

I'd just buy a variety of small festive cakes like mini mince pies, stollen bites, lebkuchen etc and arrange them all on a big platter. As long as you buy enough that it looks abundant and generous, that would be absolutely fine in place of dessert.

Bird's trifle!

Once you've eaten your Christmas Eve food make a lime tart with a biscuit base , lime jelly whisked with evaporated milk, Delicious after Mexican food.
Or a baked rice pudding
Or a brioche bread and butter pudding with chocolate chips
Or a platter of chopped fruit and a vat of melted chocolate for dipping

Apple crumble?
Baklava?
Fancy chocolates?

you could always make some fridge space by putting drinks, veggies, etc in a cool box and stand it in the garden/on the balcony/somewhere outside. My parents always used to put the drinks outside the back door at Christmas!

WeAreTheHeroes · 15/12/2022 11:29

We put veg, etc in lidded plastic boxes outside the back door.

I rarely eat desserts, but always make something when we have guests - often better than you can buy unless you're going for patisserie. You could knock up a steamed sponge pudding by the all in one method in five minutes.

chocolate log- cake that doesnt require the fridge

WhistlingInWhistler · 15/12/2022 11:48

Could you squeeze in some cream? Then you could make a lemon posset and serve it with some bought shortbread.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 15/12/2022 14:11

Yeah we stick all our surplus stuff in cool bags/ boxes in the shed. Buy it on Xmas Eve if possible and jobs a goodun.

Eve’s pudding is very easy and the ingredients won’t take up much space. It’s basically an apple crumble but with a sponge top rather than crumble. Serve with custard or ice cream.
