Playmobil or Peppa Pig

Yumyummyyum · 15/12/2022 09:57

Can’t decide what to get my 2.5 and 3.5 year old for Christmas? Any recommendations. They really like Peppa Pig (to my annoyance) but Playmobil seems to be really popular here. We have the Playmobil Noah’s Ark which never gets played with. When I ask them they just say they want everything and then keep changing their minds!

At that age go for Peppa Pig. Couple of the books (The Works sell them cheap) and a cuddly toy each and something like Peppa Pig socks and they will be over the moon.

Needmorelego · 15/12/2022 10:40

Also you can't ask them at that age what they want. They will say whatever is in their head a that moment in time ("I want cheese") 😂

santasbushybeard · 15/12/2022 10:50

Playmobil will last them years longer than the “peppa phase” I would say I shudder at the
memory, but I am reliving it with my current toddler.

I’d always say Playmobil. You can add to it over the years and add different things that interest them - castles, zoos etc for birthdays and christmas. It’s also easy for family to add to.

Also, there is always a glut of Peppa toys on my local facebook market place. I wasn’t expecting a 3rd child, so by the time she came along, I’d got rid of the precious house full of Peppa shite. I’ve now replenished the boxes full of stupid plastic animals and houses that won’t stand up for about £50 secondhand.

Playmobil for longevity.

Maybe a small Peppa play set as well.

Yumyummyyum · 15/12/2022 11:04

Yeah I think Playmobil should have more longevity but not sure if they will enjoy it now (or maybe the Noah’s Ark is just not their thing). I think Peppa would get more play and excitement right now. I could get one each but I reckon they will just fight for the Peppa stuff

My 2yr old loves peppa pig. I put it on in French so at least it's educational 😂

BertieBotts · 15/12/2022 11:12

Neither IMO. Peppa pig is short lived and they will be bored of it. Playmobil is better for age 4/5+ unless you go for Playmo 123. Too many fiddly, small parts.

Role play gifts are great at this age! Dressing up stuff, tea set, shop set, tool kit, play kitchen, doctor's kit, etc etc.

Also duplo, brio type train set, things that can be added to. Or small play - farm animals, little cars and a road playmat. Or creative/craft stuff (if you can be bothered cleaning up) or picture books or puzzles.

I would get Peppa Pig PJs or plate/cup set or something, but tend to avoid TV-branded toys as they often don't have much play value and are overpriced compared to a generic version of the same thing (e.g. Peppa Pig car with figurines vs a Playmobil 123 or Duplo car with people, Peppa Pig house vs a standard doll's house or Barbie/Polly Pocket/Lego friends house)

BertieBotts · 15/12/2022 11:13

Actually if they ignore the Noah's Ark, leave the small world play for now. Life size role play is where it's at.

Yumyummyyum · 15/12/2022 11:16

@BertieBotts Yes I’m not sure they are really into small world play yet. They like play food a lot but I have so much off that I can’t buy more! Maybe if it’s a cartoon character they know they might be more interested in small world stuff?

I bought my son Peppa pig weebles for his 2nd birthday last year and they've been played with every day this year by him, my just turned one year old and just turned five year old. I didn't want to go over board with the Peppa pig stuff as I knew it would just be a phase but the weebles are great quality. We also have the paw patrol weebles that have been a great hit over the past two years. My mum bought him a set of Peppa pig socks which he loved as well

For my son's third birthday next week I've got him Duplo. I was considering Playmobil but with a just turned one year old in the house I thought Duplo would be more practical. The kids love playing with my old Duplo at their grandparents

ReeseWitherfork · 15/12/2022 11:23

My MIL has all my husbands Playmobil from when he was a kid and my 3 year old loves playing with it. He could spend hours at nanny’s house with it. I’d recommend it all the live long day…

Blessedbethefruitz · 15/12/2022 11:34

Here to second peppa pig or duplo! Mine didn't care for any playmobil (except his advent calendar from last year that he still plays with often). But duplo and now lego (almost 4) have been huge hits. The duplo in particular is out every day, and has been since he turned 1. We just have loose blocks, a submarine bath toy and the little airplane. Our baby loves them too for banging together 😁

Daffodilsinbloom37 · 15/12/2022 11:44

My DD (now 6) has always loved small-world play, but bizarrely doesn't really seem to play with her Playmobil people that much.

On the other hand, she had the Peppa Pig figures and played with them constantly from the age of about 18 months to five and still doesn't want me to get rid of them now.

She uses the eg Playmobil car and caravan she has, but instead has used various small 'people' with them, from the PP ones and Paw Parol figures, to Sylvanian Families to a set of Learning Resources family counters and even her mini fingerlings! 😁

Needmorelego · 15/12/2022 11:54

@BertieBotts my daughter is 14 and we still have Peppa Pig stuff hanging around. It got years and years of play.

worstusernameeverx2 · 15/12/2022 11:54

Have they got a tonie box? They are perfect for both those ages

RewildingAmbridge · 15/12/2022 11:56

Peppa is banned in my house.
However could you get a Playmobil set and a couple of Peppa play figures they can use with the Playmobil?

RewildingAmbridge · 15/12/2022 11:57

Also yes to duplo

Yumyummyyum · 15/12/2022 12:14

Wow tonie box looks cool! It’s a bit pricy for Christmas but I’m going to add that to the birthday list!

Playmobil! So many sets to choose from. (But I am a massive fan Xmas Smile.)

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 15/12/2022 18:15

Look at the Peppa pig sets second hand. They only have a short lifespan for the kids but are made of hard plastic so clean up well and look like new.

Means you could get both?
