Domestic violence

I have just been reflecting a bit. My daughter suffered DV. She's been through hell for the past couple of years social services were involved which is not easy to go through. She had to leave her home was not allowed to go back there. He got 2 years in prison. Daughter was moved about a handful of times. My side of the family had to be moved as well . We were rehoused under life in danger. He's due out soon and there's a 15 year restraining order.

Claire law is great and has probably saved many people. But I wish it was more well known. Or if there was a way that it was almost second nature to check new partners out. I'm just thinking his next victim will go through simlar to what dd has before she finds out. The only reason we found out about claires law was because social services told us to look. Otherwise we would never have known. So there will be many victims out there that don't know.

You are absolutely right OP.. Claire's law should be promoted in school PSHE along with the importance of being married before having children if you are /will be economically disadvantaged due to pregnancy/mat leave...

Thank you. I'm not sure about the married side of things. But I definitely think Claire law should be more promoted

Don't misunderstand me. I don't believe everyone needs to be married to have kids . I want the legal/contractual side of it explained and the disadvantages of placing yourself in a vulnerable position by being economically disadvantaged.

So many victims of domestic abuse, stay far longer than they should - even once they get to the point where they want to leave they often feel overwhelmed by the practicalities of leaving a home with children, no money, no housing and no support.

Claire's law should form part of a curriculum model around how to build healthy relationships and identify all forms of abusive behaviour at the earliest moment.

Oh yes I have seen some woman on here suffering DV and they are either trying to save up the little money they have for an escape fund. Or don't have any money at all. When you can actually leave with the clothes on your back and get housing help /emergency accommodation/refuge .
