It has 2 windows already. And I think it's 8 x 15ft

I don't know how access for both rooms would work though

Is there space to create a new doorway and short access corridor from the existing access (which you don’t show)

AnyFucker · 14/12/2022 19:23

Have you a floor plan 9of the property, that is the best way to assess it

greenhousegal · 14/12/2022 19:25

A friend has a similar room and has divided it by putting a square lobby with a separate door into each "bit". Would that be an option?

Blummf · 14/12/2022 19:37

Floor plan.

I would rather them have seperate entrances so one isn't walking through the others space.

This is bedroom 3.

If you extend the landing into bedroom 3 you could have a door a metre or so from where the existing door is plus a door to the left hand side

RandomMess · 14/12/2022 19:47

Easy Peasy to split but it will be with one roomer smaller than the other

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 14/12/2022 19:47

That Floorplan doesn't show the second window. But assuming it wouldn't split a window, something like this is what my neighbour's did

Wouldn't that room be absolutely tiny though?

I suppose we could deal with it.

It would be for a 12 yo.

What purpose do you intend for the rooms? Is the roof sloping? It could be split but you'd end up with two tiny rooms rather than one decent sized room. What do you intend to do with the 'study room'?

Bedrooms.

The roof is not sloped.

The study room has no window so will be storage but if there's a way to incorporate it into a bedroom so there's 3 rooms up there I would do that.

You can split them more equally than people have shown.

On the video you have 2 separate windows so can go from the middle of the wall.

RandomMess · 14/12/2022 20:04

Sorry never drawn on a photo before this is awful but perhaps you can work out what I mean 🤣

I did something almost exactly the same as this op. Basically extended the hallway into the room so there was a door for each room and divide them equally width wise but one is longer than the other as doesnt have the hall extension into it. I'll try to take some pics

Figgy321 · 14/12/2022 20:08

I asked someone on Fiverr to do a plan for me - cost £7 and then the builder worked from the plan - lots of people to choose from in the site

extend hallway and split both rooms as suggested by another poster like this ….

pisspants · 14/12/2022 20:19

1st photo shows the doorways which are at right angles and the extended hallway which went into part of what was to become the smaller room with the bigger room off to the right.
2and picture shows part of the stud wall going into the larger room which is approx 70cm and evened out the width of both rooms
3rd pic shows that part in the smaller room which the plumber was able to install a tall narrow radiator on.
The rooms are now 11'5 x 7'7 and 8'4 x 7'8 so originally the large room was approx 11'5 x 15 ft.

Oddly enough my mobile phone edited drawing is not to scale.
you’ll need to pay an architect for that.
It’s simply my to illustrate where you’d put the doors

I thought you’d figure out that you could adjust the actual placement and calculate the measurements/space taken yourself!

Blummf · 14/12/2022 20:22

@pisspants that looks great!

But it eats a chunk of room 4 which is smaller across than room 3 (3.18 vs 3.76) so whilst it looks neater sketched on the drawings the reality is it will leave you with a smaller bedroom than if you take that space from room 4

Is there any need to be so rude about it?

Can you knock though into the study room to join it to the other room? Then you could take a bit of the middle room to help share the space between 3 rooms. Depending on who it's for, you could have a snug sleeping area (study bit) and living/playing/studying bit in the original bedroom bit. (I would have loved that as a teen!)

I would say that once our builders took down our upstairs stud walls it was so much easier to think
About reconfiguration.

But also- load bearing walls downstairs can have an impact on where your walls go.
