No matter how much we wash her armpits she stinks! The other day I picked her up when she came out of school and she smelt like her teenage brother! It’s so bad and embarrassing:(

BO is usually a sign of puberty isn’t it? Has she started getting hair or breast development? I’d go to GP if it is really strong and every day.

7Worfs · 14/12/2022 18:34

Does she have a bath every day?
Freshly washed uniform every day?

Children usually start to smell from 8yo onward.

Twospaniels · 14/12/2022 18:35

Get her checked out by the GP, it sounds like she is starting puberty early (poor kid)

Do you use good old fashioned bar soap not dove as shower gels and body wash can give off smelly armpits

Indoorvoicesbluey · 14/12/2022 18:39

Not tried a bar of soap but atm she’s using child farm but usually use alsorts. She has a fresh clean tshirt every day.

no other signs I don’t think!

@Indoorvoicesbluey
Try bar soap it really does make a big difference but as I said not dove you need something like imperial leather,Palmolive or shield

Janieread · 14/12/2022 18:48

Bar soap and deodorant.

Retrievemysanity · 14/12/2022 18:48

Does she wear deodorant? My youngest DD smelt of BO aged 7 and needed to wear deodorant. She didn’t have any other signs of puberty although a year later she developed underarm hair and then pubic hair aged 9. She’s always been tall but she’s 12 and hasn’t started her periods yet and only very limited breast development even though she had the BO early.

wincarwoo · 14/12/2022 18:50

My DD got this too at 7. You can get kids deodorant. Apart from armpit hair no other signs of puberty at 9.

Janieread · 14/12/2022 18:53

Also get your ds to wash and use deodorant as well.

SailingBuddy · 14/12/2022 18:53

My little one started early too. Drinking plenty of water genuinely helps. Seems to “dilute” the sweat.
Professor scrubbington does a child suitable deodorant, which helps massively too

lailamaria · 14/12/2022 19:00

i mean i think this can be solved pretty easily by getting her to use deodorant

YukoandHiro · 14/12/2022 19:02

Doctors. At this age could be a sign of early puberty

LIZS · 14/12/2022 19:09

Is it definitely from her? Have you tried different washing powder (I find the liquid tabs can create an odour) , airing or tumble drying clothes. Is she running around in a coat which encourages sweat and cannot absorb it?

RunLolaRun102 · 14/12/2022 19:15

What does she eat? I’m Indian and a child of 1st gen immigrants and growing up I used to stink because Mum made us eat spicy, onion and garlic based curries every single day. Luckily for me the rest of the kids were from the same background so it didn’t matter. But in your position I might increase her water intake, reserve onion, garlic, spicy food for weekends, and see how it goes.

Alreadyxmas · 14/12/2022 19:17

Is she using a sponge or a flannel to wash with or just rubbing the soap with her hands? Maybe she's not washing properly

BO or breast development at 6 isn’t a sign of early puberty. It can be normal (8-16 for a first period is normal).

Iamnotausername · 14/12/2022 19:38

My daughter needed to use deodorant (NOT antiperspirant) from about age 7.

Also, the fabric of her school t-shirts seemed to hold onto the smell for some reason.

Wash everyday. Even if it's just a flannel wash and yes to bar soap and a flannel.

carkerpartridge · 14/12/2022 19:45

My DD had this age 7. She had to use deodorant otherwise she was very smelly! We did get her checked out with the doctor who said she wasn't going through puberty but did say that she was overweight - so that could possibly have been a link.

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/12/2022 19:53

Bar soap, wash t-shirts hotter and add a deodorant. DD needed Mitchum from young.
