Easy films and TV about strikes

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/12/2022 17:45

On another thread and people are saying they didn't understand unions, collective actions and strikes. It's occurred to me that with a mill- and mine-working family, I understood from very young.

I knew about strike-breaking and scabs and collective action and thought before I was old enough to work that crossing a picket line wasn't something my family would do. But without a family tradition, how do people know? I thought it would be good to have a list of easy TV and films which have strikes and unions. I'll go first:

North and South
Pride
Made in Dagenham
Enola Holmes (the second one)

Any others?

There’s a French film called Potiche that I actually watched at the cinema while on Strike once! It wasn’t all that, others mentioned on here are much better.

This one is very old, saw it on Talking Pictures the other day.

I feel like there may be more old ones.

Eh, people don't understand because they don't want to. I don't come from a background where strikes were supported so I learned about them myself.

Yes but I think watching something easy might help. I mean reading the collective agreement is all well and good but I'd rather watch Pride.

Sherwood which was on bbc earlier this year is a good drama that looks back on the social divisions of strikers/non strikers.

I've watched Pride and Billy Elliot with my young teens. Pride especially provoked a lot of good chat.

films about unions/strikes/labour movement

Went down a bit of a rabbit hole with this one

Excellent doing the work the OP should have done.
