Optic Neuritis

I wonder if anyone could share their experiences of how long it took them to recover from optic neuritis.

My symptoms began around twelve days ago, with a noticeable worsening of symptoms in the last seven days.

I have other symptoms too, and I strongly suspect that I may have MS.

I currently have approximately 50% vision in my left eye, and full vision in my right eye. However, when I move my head too quickly, I get an intense headache, dizziness, and further visual disturbances.

I don't feel well enough to work at present. Although I'm paid for my (part time) contracted hours, I'm heavily reliant on doing extra shifts to tide me over between pay days, and obviously I'm not able to do that at present.

I was hoping someone might be able to share their experience of ON and of how long it took them to recover enough for a return to work.

Thanks.

Perhaps I should have posted in the health topic.

I've had Optic Neuritis (subsequently diagnosed with MS) and with steroids it was better in about 4 weeks - my eye has never been quite the same since and the optician can still see it when I have a scan.

I have a friend who was diagnosed with this about 20 or so years ago. She turned out to have an inherited disorder called Leber’s neuropathy, which causes progressive deterioration of the optic nerve. There is some evidence that high levels of folates, either as part of the diet or by supplements, can help to slow the progression of this condition if started early enough, but do check with the specialists about this.
