Would you let your neighbour ....

Have access to your garden to do fencing and tree removal work whilst you were away, because it would make disposal of trees easier for their contractor?

Depends, at my last home yes the neighbours were utterly wonderful people and if anything had gone wrong I’d have trusted we could have sorted it easily.
Current neighbour, is a bit of a tricky character while not unpleasant can we awkward, so no.

RandomPerson42 · 14/12/2022 15:18

No, not while you are away, at the very least the contractor might damage something of yours, for example flag stones if they plan on driving down your property.

Many people wouldn’t allow it under any circumstances at any time even if they were there.

Newuser82 · 14/12/2022 15:18

Yes , if they were decent people.

TwoBlueFish · 14/12/2022 15:20

Yes, my neighbour allowed me to do this recently and I’d have no hesitation in saying yes.

Reugny · 14/12/2022 15:21

Depends on your relationship with that individual neighbour.

One neighbour yes, while another neighbour no.

Newwardrobe · 14/12/2022 15:29

Depends if they're decent people who would respect my property or arseholes that wouldn't.

SirChenjins · 14/12/2022 15:31

Yes, but I would want written assurances that all damage would be paid for and I'd take photos before and after. I get on well with my neighbours, I wouldn't let them if I didn't.

bloodywhitecat · 14/12/2022 15:38

Yes because I know them well and I know they wouldn't take the piss.

Ihatethenewlook · 14/12/2022 15:40

Neighbours on the right side, yes. The ones on the left, no. I’ve seen enough horror stories on here to put me off. The whole fact that you’re even questioning it means you clearly don’t trust them 💯 so that would be a no for me.

MangoBiscuit · 14/12/2022 15:41

I am blessed with lovely neighbours, so yes. Also, if I'm away, they'd probably already be looking after my cats and garden.

pinneddownbytabbies · 14/12/2022 16:03

Not in a million trillion years.

I trust my neighbours, but I've had issues with workmen damaging stuff at my own house who have irretrievably wrecked plants & stuff in the garden, despite repeated specific requests that they take care.

No way would I give access to my property to workmen doing a job for someone else. Especially if I was not at home at the time.

thankyouforthesun · 14/12/2022 16:48

My neighbours are amazing and I know they would carefully supervise their contractors, so yes.

TellySavalashairbrush · 14/12/2022 16:51

Yes, but then I have sod all in my garden worth damaging !

AlwaysFullOfQuestions22 · 14/12/2022 17:05

Yes without a doubt. Id give them my keys to get through house to unlock side gate or garage whatever is needed

FictionalCharacter · 14/12/2022 17:23

Not while I was away, no. I've had too much damage done to my garden by workmen stomping all over plants, churning up grass and leaving rubbish and debris.

TheTreeDilemma · 14/12/2022 17:26

Thanks everyone.
I haven't approached my neighbour yet to ask if he would be willing to let me arrange this - I do know he will most likely be away when the work is due to be done (he's a pilot, so away quite a bit)

caramac04 · 14/12/2022 17:28

I would because I have good neighbours both sides. However, I would take photos beforehand and share them with neighbours as the contractor might be a cheeky beggar.

CaptaNoctem · 14/12/2022 17:28

One of our neighbours no. He’s so unpleasant I would do nothing to help him. The rest, probably yes.

Itsacakebaby · 14/12/2022 17:55

One side I definitely would - lovely older couple.

The other side - never in a million years. Totally up their own arses.

donttalkaboutbookclub · 14/12/2022 18:06

My current neighbours, absolutely yes, but previous ones definitely no. It just depends how much you trust them.

Roselilly36 · 14/12/2022 18:09

Of course, our neighbours are lovely, I wouldn’t have any concerns at all.

Motnight · 14/12/2022 18:12

No because you are not only having to trust the neighbour, but also the workers from the company that they have hired to do the work.
