Clearing fallopian tubes - did it work?

Just had my consultation with fertility doctor (privately) and all the results came back normal. Trying for 1.5 yr now, had a miscarriage prior to that. Her advice was to clear the tubes and try another 3-4 months. (And obviously diet and vitamins)

Did it work for you? Is it worth doing it or shall i start thinking of IVF instead?

Also, reading paperwork it seems to say not to have unprotected sex for a whole cycle before the procedure. Not being able to try for a month seems to be a lot.

Yes it worked the first month for me (no issues found) the staff said it was very common to fall pregnant in the 3 months following it.

You have to follow the advice not to try the month before though

Yea 1st Month for me. Along with clomid and metformin

It didn’t work for me, but worse, turns out I had a womb infection that the nhs had failed to spot and the fluid they pumped up and down my tubes did a fantastic job of spreading the infection all over my ovaries where it caused much serious damage before it was discovered later 🤬 Also, mucking about pumping from the womb into tubes has given some women endometriosis.

I’d go straight to IVF. With a different doctor! If you’ve been trying 1.5 yrs then telling you to clear tubes and wait 3-4 months is bad advice.

Yes I am bitter, I spent 3 yrs in ultra-slow NHS fertility investigations / a crap private clinic, including lots of ‘try clomid for 6 months’ ‘try this tube clearance and come back in a few months’ ‘try this hysteroscopy and come back in a few months’ etc etc

Unfortunately by the time we got to IVf, my eggs were too old and no longer capable of growing. So then they suggested donor eggs but by the time we’d explored all that I had other womb problems and we never got another child.

Get a top quality gynaecologist who recommends IVF asap is my advice to you. The best are in America/Spain/Greece but the Lister, ARGC or Zita West are also very good.

I hope you don’t waste years with NHS and a crappy local private clinic like I did. 😔

@Itsoktogiveup I'm really sorry you had to go through all this. Appreciate time is very important factor (just turned 36) so quick turnaround is essential. I received this advice from CRGH.

I think I will give tubes a go next month and see what happens with that.

@bookish83 I'm glad it worked for you. Do you know why they give you that advice? Is it them avoiding the risk of women being pregnant at the time them doing it?

@BoredOfRain yes it is the pregnancy risk. In all honestly it was a good mental break that month to stop thinking about it all for a month

Honestly it was the best thing I did. I didn't have any issues nor as long TTC but since we got pregnant the month after I think it was good value!

Sorry to the poster above who had lots of issues, that sounds rough

BoredOfRain · 18/12/2022 10:58

@bookish83 - your story sounds very encouraging. I'm seriously just bored of TTC and nothing happening.

Would you mind me asking how much did it cost you and when did you have it done? I just wonder if it is worth shopping around or just get it done with the same clinic.

Hi, of course. It was £650 a couple of years ago

hairymuffet · 19/12/2022 22:06

I found it incredibly painful and it didn't work. Just delay tactics. Go for IVF

BoredOfRain · 22/12/2022 14:50

@bookish83 I got quote of £575. Will look after Xmas if there are any better ones

@hairymuffet sorry to hear about your experience. Hopefully you are at the better place now.

It's awful the bloody waiting after every single ovulation and nothing. I'm now going through 2ww and every little pain is raising my hopes. In the beginning of ttc I was convinced I'm pregnant every cycle. Not anymore!!

Good luck to all of us. Will have some prosecco and bailey over Christmas to drown my sorrow!
