Cast iron instead of non stick?

So fed up of non stick pans loosing their non stick! I brought a circulon anondonized pan last year after recommendations here and it’s getting sticky. I’ve tried boiling some bicarbonate and vinegar but hasn’t really helped. Tell me about your cast iron frying pans please? I would mostly use for frying eggs and onions.

I have both. The cast iron ones aren’t non stick really. If I use a fair bit of oil then things don’t stick too badly, but it’s nothing like a non stick pan. (admittedly I could do with re seasoning mine which would improve the non stickness). However, they are far far better for searing meat and getting things crispy. Also you can use metal implements so if food does stick it’s easy to scrape it off.

Enamelled cast iron ie Le Creuset and copies are more non stick than plain cast iron, although still not as non stick as non stick. If that makes sense.

I tend to use cast iron for fried eggs and either non stick or enamelled for frying onions. I could do the onions in cast iron but would need to cook them lower and stir more often. Scrambled eggs and omelettes I definitely use non stick.

Cast iron is heavy - good exercise for your wrists!

I have a heavy cast iron pan that I use for everything. I've had it for a decade or so. I recall that when I first got it I seasoned it using cooking oil. Now, when I use it, nothing sticks as long as I've heated it enough first. I only use hot water to clean it.

No non-stick utensils in my kitchen at all. I don't fancy eating teflon.

Cast iron all the way here (except for my work, which is a steel one that I had to do a lengthy seasoning on when I first got it). Once they're seasoned they're non stick, so long as nobody scours them when washing!

Exactly @TomPinch , I wanted to say that in the long term all this use of Teflon utensils especially when heated will lead to an accumulation of micro plastics in the body, which then increases the pre-disposition to a myriad of illnesses. Teflon and cheap plastics (crockery, cutlery, clothing and makeup) have a lot to answer for in our quest for cheap and cheerful lifestyles.

Yeah I would ideally like to stop using nonstick to be on the safe side. Just wasn’t sure if they would have enough “non stick” properties. I guess I will give it a go and see.
