Parcel nicked from doorstep what now??

I ordered an Ipad for my DD through AO, it was "delivered" by DPD yesterday but no one was home, there's a photo showing it left on my front doorstep in plain sight. We are in a mid terrace, my doorstep is about 75cm from the footpath. I waited until my DD got home from work to see if she'd put it anywhere but she hasn't, I'm pretty sure someone has taken it. Have messaged AO but no response yet, are they likely to do anything??

Yes they should replace it (as long as you didn't ask them to leave it on the doorstep) it's their responsibility (and they have insurance as does the courier)

If AO ignore you, start a chargeback with your credit card company.

If you had left payment for your iPad in AOs car park, would they just say 'fair do's' when it got stolen?

Courier probably pretended to deliver it.

PointlessPoster · 14/12/2022 08:30

It said they wouldn't leave it in a safe place (presume as it's a high value item) so OK on that front, I'll wait to hear from them. So bloody annoying! There's a flipping bin store right next to that doorstep they could have put it in!

I would have a check with your neighbours. I had something similar with amazon where an expensive item was left in my store box but wasn't there when I got home, Amazon replaced it after 48 hours.

Has similar with evri. The shop I purchased from refused to give me a refund or replacement because in their eyes the item was delivered and evri said it was delivered (left on the step!). Had to report to my bank and JD sports still refused to acknowledge the item had not been received. My bank are still looking into it 3 months later - it was a pair of £120 trainers so not cheap and we are no further along!

As long as you haven't told the courier to leave things there as a safe place then contact the retailer and explain.

Definitely not with the neighbours as I have asked them if they've picked it up. We get a fair amount of people just walking past our house, like they may as well have left it in the middle of the footpath with a "free" sign on it, zero attempt to hide it anywhere

Highly recommend a doorbell with camera. Our local FB group has lots of posts of footage of porch pirates (which has also been shared with police and with the delivery company and in some cases with the credit card company).

One 'pirate' was recognised on a street and chased away by residents. They literally follow couriers, Amazon vans, postmen/women etc around and look for packages to steal. Even if you are only away a short while you can still find packages have been stolen.
