It is not to prevent people getting, it is to stop people getting out!

...?

FTY765 · 14/12/2022 04:54

Is this referencing anything?
FTR, you are free to leave this country any time you please. Other countries are free to deny you entry to free to not allow you to stay, though.

There is no border control to leave the UK. There is from some countries though.

RudsyFarmer · 14/12/2022 09:14

Don’t you need permission to leave China?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 14/12/2022 09:21

Why did they stop you?

WeepingSomnambulist · 14/12/2022 09:23

What?

dreamingbohemian · 14/12/2022 09:24

I see someone's never been in a 2 hour passport queue at Heathrow

MrsTerryPratchett · 14/12/2022 14:30

Random vague-MNing is annoying.

Exit visas are needed for Eritrea. I'm sure other countries have restrictions too (North Korea)

Thankfully we don't have border officials stopping us leaving the UK.

No I meant UK border control and the action threatened over the Christmas period. I am not in the UK, just read about it online with the comments from the Home Secretary.
I had always understood that one "advantage" of Brexit was momre stringent control on who enters the country, but at present wit would appear that the opposite is the case.

But that will affect travellers entering the country. Not leaving. You don't see border force when leaving.

Wait, what?

LowbrowVictoriana · 14/12/2022 17:10

I'm not sure you fully understand British border patrol.

You were misinformed on Brexit and border control

Being part of the EU grants relevant EU citizens freedom of movement (through border control) and freedom of employment across EU member countries

As demonstrated during covid EU member states could also close / control travel through their borders

Travellers with EU passports could typically drive down the motorways across Europe and wave their way through airports & ports, but Border Force could choose to check and also have an eye out for particular undesirables on flight and ferry manifests. The carrying airline , ferry company etc were/are held liable for ensuring passengers have suitable passports (or suitable national ID where applicable)

A particular area of concern for immigration was the overstayers of those who admitted legally and didn’t leave - nothing to do with the EU or Brexit

Today the same situation remains but EU citizens have the same status as the rest of the world, and we are part of the rest of the world when going to the EU

Undocumented migrants on boats, hidden in lorries etc have exactly the same status as they had before Brexit, and the UK has exactly the same responsibility for them …. Except for one thing, under the EU we could oblige another EU state to take responsibility for them
(Bearing in mind that nobody was required to claim asylum in ‘the first safe country)

Another thing that may have triggered the post is the recent FOIs on ‘illegal immigrants’. If they arrive by boat, and are picked up by the authorities then they have not illegally entered the UK

UK border control won't stop you leaving.
You were misinformed at best if you thought Brexit would make any difference at all to immigration levels.
