Tiny mouse just ran in house and into my kitchen

I just opened my front door to let our cat in and a tiny mouse ran in and seems to have vanished in the kitchen.
Stressed out is a understatement.

What should I do?
Thanks

Can you get it into a large cup or glass and scoop it outside. Don't let the cat kill it, that's horrible 😥

Agree. My DF has a cat he dotes on but it's a vicious killer of mice and will even bring in half-dead baby rabbits and badgers ffs! This is why I won't have a cat. I know mice are vermin but I think having cats attracts mice in that there were never mice before the cat was there! It brings them in, some escape and I have even found a dead one under his bed! Once I was sitting in the lounge and a tiny house mouse popped out from under the kitchen units. He was actually really cute! I said nothing to DF but he noticed it himself and said the cat will deal with it. Poor little mite! He often has to kill them himself if the cat hasn't finishes them off. It's a difficult one though as you don't want to be over run with mice, and traps are awful so what to do?

I think it just depends on the cat. Some are keen hunters but some aren't too fussed.
My old cat was always out hunting and trying to bring in dead birds and leaving mice at the front door but as he aged he lost all interest and I never saw anything else for years.
He never brought live mice in however.

If your cat is likely to try to catch it, like others have said leave the cat in the kitchen overnight - however some cats are useless hunters when it comes to catching mice. If you want to take matters into your own hands get a mouse trap and put peanut butter on the trap and leave that (minus cat) in the kitchen. Might be an idea to transfer anything that's in a packet into Tupperware or metal container in case it tries to get to the food?

Leave the door open for a few hours and it will likely make its own way out. Your house isn't it's own territory, it won't want to stay, most likely just came in to be warm. It will want to go home so just give it a way out.

Update on mouse , No sign of it in kitchen, and cat is asleep in there 💤 lucky cat.

I hope it hasn't crawled under something and died. I had a cat and she lost one in the front room and a couple of weeks later, there was a bad smell. Lots of moving cabinets revealed the maggot ridden corpse...
