Christening gifts for an extraordinarily rich baby when I am not extraordinarily rich?

Bit of a tongue in cheek title, but what on earth do I buy as a gift for a baby that already had everything before they were even thought of 😂

I am sadly not rich as fuck, so no silver rattles or diamond baby brushes here.

What is sentimental and able to be kept, but also means I don’t have to go to Tiffany?

We've always done a book that's meaningful plus premium bonds (depending on how much you want to spend)

These Little Boy/Girl Who Lost Their Name books are lovely OP: https://www.wonderbly.com/uk/personalized-products/lost-my-name-book?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIk4jyLn3-wIVR4BQBh2f1AFlEAAYASAAEgLB0vDD_BwE both my children have them, I think at least one was a christening gift x

Definitely books! We always said books when people asked what we wanted for newborn DD. MIL gave her one of these little hardback Peter Rabbit books and someone else a lovely hardback edition of Winnie the Pooh.

Ds got a big book of Paddington bear stories which is lovely. Also a bowl & mug set with Paddington on - mug still comes out at breakfast time every day. Ds is 10 🐻

A book to read with message inside

A beautiful edition of The Hobbit sounds perfect. Remember, they've picked you for your character not your bank balance.

An appropriate book, that you love, with a heartfelt inscription.

This^^

A Bible

Bouledeneige · 13/12/2022 21:12

It really doesn't matter at all. Probably will get tons of stuff that no one will ever care about in a year or twos time. Be present.

anon2022anon · 13/12/2022 21:15

For the past couple of christenings Ive ordered coins for the year of the little ones birth- paddington and Winnie the pooh.

SparkyBlue · 13/12/2022 21:24

If it's happening soon then a Christmas tree decoration is a lovely idea. We got lots of keepsake items for DD and being honest they ended up being sent to a charity shop a year or two later when we moved house. A nice blanket is an idea as well.

Newuser82 · 13/12/2022 21:30

A copy of the hobbit is a gorgeous idea! Your friend will treasure it. Perfect!

HamBone · 13/12/2022 21:31

This might not work for a winter christening, but one of our favorite christening gifts was a rose that we could plant in the garden. It might have been called “Happy Event.” Anyway, I thought that was lovely…unfortunately, it didn’t survive a few years of my TLC, I’m not the best at gardening. 🤣 Plus we moved.

But I’ve never forgotten the gift.

gogohmm · 13/12/2022 21:38

Can't beat the original Winnie the Pooh hardback (or the box set with when we were very young)

123woop · 13/12/2022 21:39

I bought my god daughter the full Peter rabbit collection - it is quite spenny (I think I paid £40) but it's something she'll keep and my daughter LOVES the one she got as a baby even now

Royal mail set of stamps or royal mint coin

These are all amazing!! Thank you all so much.

I love the book idea, baby’s mum and I were obsessed with The Hobbit when we were smaller so that might be a good shout!

A Swarovski Christmas bauble.
They can put it on the tree every year x

mdh2020 · 13/12/2022 22:01

I always give a nice book, hard bound. Eg Alice, Wind in the Willows or a Child’s bible.

If you can stretch to it, then get the book but also a personalised 'this book belongs to' stamp like this one that is Hobbit inspired:
