It's warmer for me to walk the streets than stay at home.

Wrapped in 4 thermal vests, 2 pairs of thermal leggings, then jeans & a wool jumper, thick coat & hat, it's warmer for me to keep moving and walk the streets than stay at home. In the day my house averages 7-8 degrees. It's a 20s property built from solid block (no cavity). The loft is converted & insulated. There is no way I can pay for daytime heating. I wear sheepskin insoles in my slippers and wool socks but I still feel the cold. Conversely, if I go out and walk the streets I feel quite toasty in all my layers. Thankfully it's not windy at the moment. There are no warm shelters near me, I checked the website this morning. We're not even in the depths of winter yet. I thought after the heatwave we were in for an easy winter, seems not.

Do you work during the day? If not, perhaps a library or some other public building.

Can you get hold of a plug in oil radiator? They’re amazing at heating a room up. I’m currently living in my living room with the one radiator on, it costs about 12p an hour to run and I have it on most of the day. I manage without any heating on at night, I keep warm with a really thick duvet.

I’m stuck home with a virus & bad asthma today. It’s miserable, I can’t even move around much to warm up (asthma!). All I can suggest is putting YouTube exercise stuff on for 10 minute bursts of exercise to get you warm throughout the day. And am only saying that because it’s advice I don’t have to take....!

I have zero funds to run an oil radiator in the day.

Sadly our libraries are closed too due to the snow.

@Spliffle Oh honey that sounds difficult, it's no way to live. I have no answers really, apart from PP suggestion about a library. Or could you sit in a cafe and nurse a coffee for a few hours? Take a book with you. I know this can be seen as quite rude but I think a lot of cafe owners are being really sensitive and understanding about this at the moment, even though they are struggling too.

There should be some let-up by the weekend for a while as it's going to get much milder. But I realise that's only a very short term solution for you.

Any Wetherspoons nearby? They do unlimited hot drinks for under £2 IIRC

Check on local fb groups for local churches and organisations to see if they're running warm banks, several are in my area but when I check on the warm banks site they're not listed. So there hopefully might be something in your area just not listed on the website.

In a similar position but now have dd home so I can’t walk all day. Last week I spent most of my time out of the house because I couldn’t afford to heat it, I had to make sure I had funds for this week knowing dd will be home (DD has disabilities). We are on day 2 of the holidays and the house is cold even with the heating on 18 non stop. Today I have been cleaning and doing some DIY jobs, keeping busy so I don’t feel cold. I never imagined there would be a time when I had to decide if I could afford to put the heating on. It’s awful that so many are in this situation.
