Constantly cold

I am constantly cold and I think it’s beyond what is normal. In general I think I have always felt the cold, but this winter it’s worse. It’s probably a combination of factors. I am being sparing with the heating although still using some - so my house is colder than usual. I am also peri menopausal and just not feeling great. Last night it was 16 degrees in my bedroom when I went to bed so not too bad - but I was wearing lots of layers and have a thick duvet and quilt on my bed but still took ages to warm up and get to sleep.

Anyone else?

16 is to cold for a house to be a healthy "warm" temp it needs to be 18 or above.

However I'm always cold too, I'm really sensitive to temperatures hot or cold. Have you tried a hot water bottle in bed before you get into it? I find that helps.

Are you very slim? If you haven't got much body fat, you'll be cold. Is the rest of your home at a comfortable temperature? Are you on any medications that might be attributed to it?

Get an electric blanket. It will solve the bed issue. I have an electric mattress protector and it goes on every night. It makes a huge difference. I also slept in my Oodie last night.

Thanks - maybe I will try an electric blanket or hot water bottle. I am very slim so not much natural insulation! I heat the downstairs area more but not heating upstairs in the day when we are not using it. But then it does take ages to warm up and never as warm as is ideal. My ideal would be 20 in living area and 18 in bedroom ( while still wearing something warm!).

We invested in a duel control electric blanket. It takes the nip out of getting into a cold bed. It's so cozy. Our house is a constant 16 degrees in the day and I light a fire in the evening.

I can recommend a heated blanket. Ours stays on all night on the lowest setting.

i’m the same & my hands & feet are now full of chilblains☹️ I have the heating in 16 all day & still feel freezing wfh. If I put it up, it’s even more expensive & it’s already on £5.24 for today. I only have a tiny house too!

I have Oodies, electric blankets etc but my bones still feel cold. I have lost weight recently which isn’t helping.

Get your thyroid levels checked, you might need to top up your thyroid hormone. Lack of it makes you cold and sluggish (amongst other things). If your GP is not seeing people, try Medichecks. They do thyroid panel blood tests for not too much money and then you will know if you have a problem that needs the doctor rather than just wondering iyswim

Do you have socks to sleep in?

I find that if my feet are cold I can never sleep. I can be bare armed in a sleep tee but must wear socks.
