Help me! Getting 18mo DD to sleep in her cot

DD is 18 months old and has been mostly co-sleeping with me for the last few months. We have 2 older DC and it’s really been the best way to all get a decent nights sleep. She tends to fall asleep by cuddling me and then I can sneak away til my bedtime-if she wakes in the night she snuggles into me and falls asleep easily.

we have decided it’s time to get her sleeping in her own cot. My husband can settle her to sleep and a couple of times in the night (she goes beserk if she sees me and I won’t take her into my bed) but then she’s up at 5 ish and won’t go back down (usually wouldn’t wake up til 6 or 7).

my husband is out tomorrow night and I don’t want to undo all his work settling her by just caving in and having her back in my bed. Any similar experiences? How did it work out eventually?

Honestly, I'd seriously consider putting her in a single bed (or mattress on the floor) and cuddle her to sleep and then sneak away. Far more comfortable for you than trying to get her to settle in a cot.

do you still have the sides on the cot?

Yes sides are on cot. I do sometimes climb in but admittedly it’s not comfortable!

it’s the night wake ups that are the real issue as she just won’t sleep through the night. We are trying to teach her to self soothe rather than need a cuddle to go to sleep.

Honestly, I think they're either born with it or they're not! I had one who screamed and had to be cuddled back to sleep, as a tiny wouldn't sleep anywhere but on me. Second who would smile and drop off as soon as in cot.

I went for the "I want you to sleep in your own bed". As soon as they were in singles that meant I took them back to their bed and stayed til they slept. Sometimes that meant a couple of hours in my bed, then to DC2, then to DC1 and back to DC2 for the rest of the night. But we all slept and they got the idea they had to spend the night in their beds.
