Making a dual tog superking duvet

WithIcePlease · 12/12/2022 09:27

I can't sleep as too hot. I need a 4.5 tog duvet but DH cold. I can't find a dual tog superking duvet.
If superking is 260cm wide, I'm thinking I could sew 2 singles together? Has anyone done this? Or should I just get new bedclothes and have 2 singles (but looks less tidy)
Anyone solved this?

Two duvets for us, each with different tog. In the morning we have a throw that is queen size to cover the duvets after bed is made.

I have two duvets on our bed because I'm menopausal and get too hot. One goes on top of the other (in separate duvet covers) and then I can sling one off in the night whilst DH keeps both on.

Thank you - a bigger bed spread/throw would keep it neat. And we tried the 2 layers of thinner duvets so I could throw it off me but I will need new bedclothes. I'm off to see what we have lurking in cupboards as thinking now I could stitch a single duvet on top of a thinner superking without too much difficulty

I was. Looking at this at the weekend too! Discovered single duvets are (I think 20cm) shorter than super kings which put me off the idea Sad

Get a wool one. Best purchase ever. Warm in the winter but not sweaty or heavy and stays cool in the summer. I use crisp 100% cotton sheets in the summer and brushed 100% cotton covers/sheets in the winter.

Yes re difference in length so that's why I'm thinking sew a single on top of a superking
I've seen the wool ones mentioned repeatedly on MN but the outlay without being sure it would solve my problem puts me off

Give DH a single or double duvet one thinner than he would like. Put the 4.5 tog in your current super king cover, and have it over both of you.
Make bed by hiding the smaller duvet under the super king.

That's a good idea too
I'm off to Dunelm as they are the nearest place with a good range - I will take a pillowcase and see if anything to tone in and look at prices and designs. . I ve got my tape measure ready too.
So options are:
Sew 4.5 onto 4.5 SK
Get a single and cover to tone in and DH can use that just for the cold weather which seems simplest tbh

Two single duvets on our super king bed with a pretty, plain white superking bedspread over it and matching decorative pillows.

Why not safety pin the duvets together instead of sewing them ? Easier to wash.
