We have been stuck in Chatham now for four hours. Got about 7 miles maybe? Think we will be stuck in the car overnight now.

It snowed about 3-4 inches in one hour.

My first thought would be "where can I have a wee?"

How are you managing, wee wise?

You know you can get out of the car and walk
it doesn’t even look that snowy to me …

My friend took 8 hours to get from Wolverhampton to Waterlooville on Sunday!

If we should use winter tyres when it’s under 7° then why don’t we have them on most of the year? It’s under 7° much more often than it is over.

I don't know where you live but in England that is not true. Most of the time it is warmer, often considerably so, and Summer tyres have much better grip and shorter braking distances. Even when I was in Perthshire, the winter daytime temperatures are often warmer, unless you are on the mountains. Winter tyres are made of a rubber that goes soft when warm, and wears away

Nightime and mornings are colder, so it depends on your driving pattern.

Hardknot Pass - stunning scenery which is wasted as one keeps eyes firmly on the road and knuckles gripped on the wheel ! I love being a passenger on that road.

Exactly! passenger DH had a great time. When I saw the defibrillator in a phone box at the end of that road, I just thought “makes sense”. 😂

Meanwhile in Shetland folk are going into fourth day with no electricity phone signal or landlines and it's blowing a gale as well as far more than four inches of snow ! On an A road in a built up area of South East England I can't really get worked up about!

Hi, Did not say that you should use them, just that i totally recommend them. As stated by another poster it depends on work/travel patterns. I live in the Midlands and from Dec-Mar most early mornings/evenings are below 7c and they provide extra safety especially in the wet compared to normal summer tyres.
I also like to be in the Peak District as much as I can, with changable winter weather. They can be used safely in higher temps as well, just the tyre wear is increased.
If I lived further south i would probably go for All season cross climate tyres which would posibly provide a good happy medium.
