Does having a dog help calm you or cause you stress?

been struggling with a few health issues Physical and also have anxiety

thinking maybe a dog would be good
I do walk a lot I have to walk every so how day for anxiety
so walking no problem

Just trying to weight it all up

if you have a dog what’s been your experience ?

Depends on the dog lol.

Mine is a dream but it takes a lot of work. They don't train themselves. A puppy isn't a good idea if you suffer with your mental health as it is literally a baby.

Can't be left alone for more than an hour for the first few months, needs to go out to pee every 2 hours including through the night for first few months, chews literally everything.

My dog is an angel. She is brilliant, no behaviour issues, doesn't need a lead except by main roads for her own safety, seems to understand every word I say. As a puppy she nearly broke me. Chewed through the leg of the dining table, took until a year old to be fully house trained, very mouthy. Very clingy. Velcro puppy doesn't do it justice.

She still is my little shadow now but does allow me to pee without her occasionally.

I'd advise you to adopt an adult dog if you decide to get one, a puppy would be a massive strain on you.
